Mine says it goes down to 12v... i can detect wall outlets and big cords that are plugged into sockets. But when i try to detect small wires in the car nothing happens. Not even on the 12v constant. My question is... Does this cap come off or is this always suspose to be on?

usually the caps come off to expose the probe...

usually the caps come off to expose the probe...

Man ive been useing all my strength to get it off and it isnt budging.. lol

maybe its not meant to cut off? do you leave it on to check the 120v?

also, homes voltages are in AC volts, cars are in DC volts, are you sure the meter is meant for both types?

its definetely NOT meant to come off. its made to detect the magnetic feild that is created with AC current. Not going to work for DC.
