Mechman said he could get me a 220 amp alternator and that it would be enough to supply my planned 8000 watt rms setup if i got a couple of quality batteries in the rear. Anyone else think the 220 would be enough, or do i need to pay the big bucks for a bigger one from dc power? 2000 zx2: Rebuild with 8 12s on a 10k underway!! MY BUILD LOG

skittlesRgood Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 8000w will come close to 800amps of draw. after imp rise, maybe ~500amps. your car probably uses ~60amps to run. that leaves you with 160amps of alt power to power your system. with enough batteries you can keep voltage at a safe level, but it wont be any 13-14v. call up DC and get the biggest alt you can. I'd love to have the 390 amp they make for my car, but its not in my budget right now at over $1,100.
