Alternator & electrical help.

I'm getting a SMD 18" in a couple weeks and running it on a Crescendo 5500. 5600 watts at 13.8 volts. As of now in my 2001 Crown Victoria I believe it has a stock 200 amp alternator I could be mistaken. Right now my choices are rebuilding the alternator to 260 or buying another alternator and running 2 200 amp alternators. Which I would rather only run 1 but I'll do what I have to. My second question would be how does one battery differ from another battery? Besides the cold cranking amps?

Your stock alternator is 130 amps.

I would do our 300 amp unit with the dual idler kit (otherwise the belt will just slip) with an XS power D3400 under the hood, and a D3100 in the rear. You will be in good shape with that setup. Best of all, the 300 amp units are on sale right now for only $499 (reg. $599) till Dec. 1st. We have free shipping on the XS power batteries too.

And to answer your question- AGM batteries are way better than the type with water in them. To distinguish which AGM battery is better, look if they use Pure virgin lead, or recycled lead. Look at the type of hull that they use, and finally look at the types of terminals they use. XS power batteries are built with the best of everything, plus they have a great warranty.

And please DONT try to "rebuild" your stock alt to 260 amps, you will be greatly disapointed. Not only will the belt slip like crazy because that vehicle has terrible belt wrap on the alternator, but the rectifier in that type of unit sucks, and it will quickly overheat. Our 300 amp unit has literally twice the surface area on the rectifier, and 16 diodes instead of just 8.
