Box Placement In The Trunk

Recommended Posts

Posted

Okay so for a few months now I've had 2 12" subs .... in a stock box in my trunk of my big fat SUV.

My question is (and I realize this is easily tested, I'm lazy & it's late), does placement matter? So like if I move the box (and subs) really close away from the rear of the car, like half a foot, will it be louder? The reasoning is that the sound would bounce off the wall and reverberate into the cabin more.

OR

Do I put them as far away as I can to get more "air space"? As you can tell I'm very much a newbie! Haha

Right now I have 'em placed somewhere in the middle

rule of thumb is if you have a hatchback, you want the port facing the back of the car . in a trunk, you want the port facing the front.

in a tahoe, yukon, blazer, explorer anything that is like a hatch, you would do the same..

as far as louder and placement goes, i dont think it matters.. i had my port right next to my hatch, and it was loud enough inside.. i tried to move the box, and test that out myself, but it was the same.. but it was 2x louder with the port facing the back, than port facing front.. it was that big of a difference... i say test your self.. see what you think.. if you live by someone with a termlab get on it, and make your changes.. change one thing at a time, not all at once...

IM A LOW LIFE SCAMMER SO I WAS BANT....TEH HAMMA is NOT my friend

When I had my 12s they did better with the subs and ports firing towards the rear. Now with my 18s its totally different. They hit louder down low in the 30hz range when firing towards the rear (as seen in my avatar) bu they're 1.5db louder at my peak of 41hz with subs firing up and port back. However after firing the subs up I lost 1.5db down low in the 30hz range.

Subs & port back I hit 145.5 @ 30hz and 146.5 @ 41hz

Subs up & ports back I hit 144 @ 30hz and 148 @ 41hz
