Guest Posted December 1, 2011 Report Share Posted December 1, 2011 crossovers are used to filter out frequencies to speakers that arent meant to play them. for example, you wouldnt want a tweeter to play lower frequencies, as that can damage them. so you use a crossover to filter them out. same thing with a subwoofer. you wouldnt want a subwoofer to play higher frequencies, so you use a crossover to filter them out. you have witnessed first hand why you would need a crossover in virtually every single speaker system. to keep your speakers from heating up and possibly blowing.
