GLIForanEye Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 I'm planning on swapping my 2 12" Alpine Type-R and component setup from my old accord to my new GLI. I had a professional shop install everything but I'd like to do this one myself and save some money at the same time as learning a thing or two. I've got everything prepared, got extra clips from the dealer in case I break one or two while prying up door sills and door panels. I just need to get the tools and dash kit... My main inquiry is what I should do with my remote wires... I've heard of people getting an add-a-circuit fuse panel adapter to run a second line off of a fuse input and hooking that to the remote wire for my sub amp and 4-channel, or splicing them into the power of the stereo. What is the best way to go about setting this up? I'd like to have my system fully set up by tomorrow. Also, can I just splice my 4-channel remote wire in with the same connection as the remote wire of my bass amp? Or will it interfere in some way. Apologies if this is a stupid question, but I don't have a ton of experience in audio electronics. I plan on doing a whole DIY thread on the VWVortex forums for Mark V jetta installations as I go along. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Blue Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 What your going to need to do is tap into the fuse panel on the drivers side of the car. I can get you the exact fuse location tomorrow that I'm using for mine. Going to need tap into that with a fuse tap and run that to the switch turn on for the radio (constant usually yellow, remote turn on red). Then from there you connect another piece of wire that will connect to the amps in the back. Be extremely careful on taking out the stock radio and putting in an aftermarket one. It's not easy. Broke a few tabs on mine the first time I did it. Take it slow and you should be fine. Another suggestion is to take off the passenger side panel off of the center console to run the new rca's and remote wire (screw towards the firewall behind a cover plate. Take the screw out and pull it straight down and it will come off and make running the wire a whole heck of a lot easier. Going to want to get the passenger side of the back seat out so you can get to the sill plate bolt that is located there. Have fun, and remember take your time. If you need any more suggestions let me know and I will try to help you out the best I can. formerly known as Blue86f150 its a 4th order just because its tuned in the 40z doesnt mean it wont reach down and jiggle your balls at sub 30 hz frequencies.
