stratus build MTX 9500

Okay, i have a dodge stratus with a custom built (small, 27W X 12D X 16H Tuned to 33Hz) ported box, I currently have a MTX 9500 in it being pushed by a MTX 1501D, it hits plenty hard, but every now and then it will cut off, (i am also running a 4awg power wire until my 0awg wire comes in) the amp doesnt go into protect but i cant turn it up all the way at m head unit, i have the gain turned down on the amp, my buddy turned it all the way up one time when we first got it hooked up and all bass stopped and it made a not so settling noise which scared the shiit out of me!!! and my bass at the head unit on -3, i was under the impression that it should be hitting alot harder and not cutting out because i've heard nothing but good things about my amp. Now is this caused by lack of power and is my box why its not hitting how i think it should be, or am i just expecting too much? Any and all help would be appreciated, and im running it at 2ohm, i believe, (a set of wires off each voice coil to the amp, i read that the amp had two hook ups specifically for that purpose). am i doing something wrong? and i am thinking about adding 2 more 12's, what would be good (not extremely expensive) in a 16X16 or a hair bigger or smaller box? i have room in the back right and back left of my trunk for two more 12's. ALSO i am building another box, 30W X 16H X 18D with a 3" port and a 15" L inside. input-appreciated! thanks.
