Dgerv93 Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 Alright so I'm new when it comes to sound systems so I really don't know what I'm doing but I got two brand new 10" JBL GT1081 Subwoofers for free so I want to buy a new amp that will work well with them while also being on the cheaper side The thing that confuses me is in the description on Crutchfield these subwoofers have a higher impedance (8 Ohms) and I honestly have no idea what that means, but leads me to believe that I should be careful when choosing an amp. And on a side note...Is higher impedance better or worse when it comes to subs? I'm assuming it's worse, but the subs were free, so beggers can't be choosers I suppose

There's a pioneer that does like 400 watts rms bridged that would match up to those and it's 90 bucks. Id post a link but I have to be in work in 4 minutes lol. subwoofers - two eclipse 88120s box - 3.4 cubes tuned to 32 hz amps - aq1200 and pheonix gold zx450 New build : 2 obsidian audio 15s same amp 6.1 cubic foot box tuned to 32 hz in a civic hatch
CleanSierra Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 You need an amp that's 2 channel that can be bridged at 4 ohms and put out its most power. Wiring two Single voice coil subs that each have an 8 ohm impedance, will wire together for a final load of 4 ohms at the amp. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

Mind if I ask what kind of subs you have hooked up to it? It seems like its a little lacking in power to me. I mean the recommended RMS according to Crutchfield is around 275 in each of the subs I have, so if this 250 peak in each channel, wouldn't that mean it's not enough?? To be frank I'm talking out of my ass because I really don't know much about this stuff, but thats just what I would assume.

I've heard the term a lot but I've never fully understood what it means. If I'm running two subs wouldn't that mean I could just run one sub in each channel of a 2 channel amp?
