Port tuning on my subwoofer box

So it turns out I have about 56 inches of port area. I'm guessing this isn't enough? My trunk space is about 22w-18h-25d. I would really appreciate some tips on how to make a box design around 4.5net and 37hz with 90 inches of port.

Impossible. you're at 4.6 after only subtracting the enclosure walls. thats before port, sub and bracing displacement.

You cant get bigger in that car? seems like there would be more room

If your using that much power you can get away with a smaller box. Just tune it lower if you want it to sound loud if your worried about you spl score tune to mid to upper 40's at least. My last box was tuned to 49 and i peaked at 62 hz. That box was 5.3 cubes for 2 15 xl's.

Ran almost 4 cubes after displacement on a single 12 tuned to 38hz, peaked at 42. did 147.9 legal on dash. And this was not a burp box. Of course differnent subs. Unless youre running insane power you should stick to big on volume or what your sub company recommends.

ok here a design i came up with.

38" wide, 18" height, and 18.25" deep.

Port 20" w x 4" h x 27.5" deep will give you 80 square inch of port tuned to 37 hz

volume will be right at 4.5 after sub and port displacement (assuming 3/4'' material used all single wall construction). This will also give a little room for a couple wall to wall braces.

/facepalm. I was doing some calculations on the12volt and it turns out the box I built before(the one my sub is currently in) is actually around 4.9 cubic ft and is tuned around 30hz. I've had my ssf up at 34 thise whole time thinking I was tuned in the 40's! Lol! No wonder I only hit a 139.5:P

You think I should rebuild the box because aq's don't like lows, or just roll with the same box?

What are actual outer dimensions of the box and port width, height and length on the current box. Let me check your math and see for certain what you have now.

id roll with the same box. possibly try to change up the port dimensions to try and get the right tuning. especially if money is tight. but hell man if you have the wood then just build a new one and compare the sounds. also try and make some box mods i.e. fiberglass the interior. be sure that you tune you amp right too, just spend a day playing around with different setups until you find the best one

Box is 38 wide, 17high, and 17.75 deep. The port is 4 inches wide and 15.5 high. BUT, it tapers in, so I rounded the port width to 3.75w on average. Displacement for port wall/bracing/sub is about .46.

Do my calculations sound correct?
