rogue Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 id roll with the same box. possibly try to change up the port dimensions to try and get the right tuning. especially if money is tight. but hell man if you have the wood then just build a new one and compare the sounds. also try and make some box mods i.e. fiberglass the interior. be sure that you tune you amp right too, just spend a day playing around with different setups until you find the best one If money was tight you would keep the same box with a port that is not even congruent and spend money on fiberglassing the interior of the box? you do know a whole 4 x 8 sheet of MDF is like $30, resin is at least $15 a quart for the cheap stuff. rogue Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 Just bought the materials to build the box! Thanks for the help brother:) /facepalm. I was doing some calculations on the12volt and it turns out the box I built before(the one my sub is currently in) is actually around 4.9 cubic ft and is tuned around 30hz. I've had my ssf up at 34 thise whole time thinking I was tuned in the 40's! Lol! No wonder I only hit a 139.5:P You think I should rebuild the box because aq's don't like lows, or just roll with the same box? What are actual outer dimensions of the box and port width, height and length on the current box. Let me check your math and see for certain what you have now. Box is 38 wide, 17high, and 17.75 deep. The port is 4 inches wide and 15.5 high. BUT, it tapers in, so I rounded the port width to 3.75w on average. Displacement for port wall/bracing/sub is about .46. Do my calculations sound correct? Got no length for the port in that BMW X5 Stealth Build w/ IPAD BMW 325i Rear Deck Digital Designs Build BMW 325i Car PC Touchscreen Bezel Build

rogue Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 K i got you at about 4 cubes after all displacements guessing about .2 for sub on displacement which would put your current box at 35hz Really not a bad set up for that sub aside from the fact that the port isnt exactly straight. A little larger port wouldn't hurt though and the volume will improve effieciency of the box. Dont expect a 3 db gain from these changes tho. Nikitaaa Posted February 10, 2012 Author Report Posted February 10, 2012 Alright, thanks so much for all your help! I owe you a big one! I guess I just have to play around with my ssf then. I had it set at around 34. Should I set it to about 27hz then? 2007 M/T Honda Civic Coupe EX (4) Sundown Audio X-8's (2) Ampere Audio 3800.1's (3) Stinger SPV-44 Batteries (1) Mechman 240 3:1 Ratio 4th order sealed from the trunkTEAM NWSPLBest termlab scores to date in Honda trunk:151.7db legal (official) IASCA trunk 3 classBest termlab scores to date in my walled Subie:152.9db legal (unofficial) IASCA advanced 2 class155db outlaw

Well since you are peaking at 42 , I doubt you will see a change on your score, but it may help on some music. wouldnt go much lower than 30 hz on the subsonic IMO. rogue Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 While im wondering about things you may have issues on...you are wired in parrallel on the coils of the sub right? I mean both reds together and then to + and then both blacks together to - Making sure. a series connection would kill the amount of power the amp is putting out.
