Space questions on an 06 & Up Ford Expedition

Ok so here's the deal. My life is changing and with it the vehicle must get bigger. For reasons, that aren't relevant to this thread, my wife and I are looking at a Ford Expedition, probably years 2006, 2007, 2008 and possibly 2009. They're all the same body style if I recall correctly. My biggest issue is sub placement. This is not going to be some huge 6 15" sub build or anything like that. I'm using what I have in hand and that consists of the following:

Hertz Mille ML280s tweeters

Hertz Mille ML700 mid range

Hertz Mille ML1600 mid bass

Hertz High Energy HX300D (12" dual 4 ohm) sub

Hertz HDP4 (4 channel amp) for tweets and mid range

Hertz HDP4 (4 channel amp) bridged for mid bass

Hertz HDP1 (mono amp) for sub

Audison Bit One Processor

These are the basics of my system in hand right now. So I was looking at, and having previously owned an Expedition EL, I know there's a sub back there somewhere, I believe it's on the passenger side rear. I'm not sure how big it is, nor do I care. But, I think that if I can remove that sub, I think there may be plenty of room in there to do a nice fiberglass enclosure to fit the 12 I currently have. I don't really want to go down in size to a 10" sub, mainly cause I have the 12 in hand and I'd like to just use it if I can.

Here are the issues. This has to be a very out of the way install. I need all the cargo space I can get, and the rear seats (3rd row) have to be functional 100%. Most of the time, probably a good 95%, they will be down, but there is the occasional time where they'll need to be used. The other issue is I'm going to have a dog kennel for my new boxer that will reside back there for at least the next year. I'm taking her back and forth to work, and I have to have a kennel back there for her to ride in.

So basically what my thoughts are on an install is to put the amps on the left side in a custom panel, replacing the stock panel that's there, and then fiberglassing an enclosure on the right side for the sub. What I need to know is space.

Does anyone out there have an expedition in these years, and have you taken off the rear panels to see what's under them or anything like that? From the minimal installs I've seen, like 3 or 4, I've not seen anything like this tried.

I've seen an install where a guy put two DLS amps on the passenger side in a custom panel, which is frankly where i got the idea for the driver side panel for the amps. But it looked as though there wasn't much, if anything back there to have to move or deal with, except the seat switches that would either be relocated, or just incorporated into the enclosure.

Another guy had two JL Audio HD Amps, clean sweep and another unit on the driver side under the panel, nothing custom just hidden and out of the way, and the amps were stacked and there still seemed to be plenty of room. This is what really confirms the amp plan of mine. I may also get a set of coaxials for the rear or even components and if I do, I'll be adding a third HDP4 to the mix. I think I can get the 4 amps on that side, 3 on the face and maybe the 4th (HDP1 is bigger than the HDP4's) on the top.

These Hertz HDP amps have a very small footprint, and that's one of the reasons I chose them, cause in my current car (Honda Civc) I needed as much space as I could get.

But I'm still unsure on the passenger side enclosure. I basically need 1.25 - 1.5 cu ft of enclosure area with a port to work with this sub. I think I can get it in there, I just would like to confirm it, if someone can.

I could build an enclosure to just sit back there and be removable, but I'm trying to avoid anything having to be removed. This the thought on the custom enclosure on the side panel. Maybe in a year or two when I don't have to kennel the dog, I can open up the back and do some real ground pounding work back there. For now, I need the space and cargo area open.

So I don't exactly have my answer yet, but I found this in my searching so it looks like it can be done. This guy only used a 10" sub, and he didn't even close to use the entire space available. So I think for sure i could get a 12 in there. Ported, I don't know. But if I could get one on both sides, sealed, for now, then I'd be set for sure. Take a look at what he did. I'm gonna sign up and send him some questions.
