New mids/highs/sound dampening for my truck

Hello all,

I've been incrementally upgrading the sound system in my truck over the past year or so, and toward this summer I plan on installing new mids and highs.

I guess I should outline what I have:

2006 Lincoln Mark LT (crew cab, 4x4, etc.)

Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD Headunit

JL XD 600/1 Mono Amplifier custom mounted in the center console (cooled with two fans)

JL Stealthbox (ported, under rear seats) loaded with a JL 10W3v3 (2 ohm version)

2 AWG from battery to 4 AWG at fused distribution block

Gains set with the DD-1

Everything else is stock

Originally I was planning on finishing off the system with all JL speakers, but lately I've been looking at Rockford mids/highs too.

I'm mostly looking at JL's C5-650s and RF's T2-652s. If I went with JL, I'd likely use the JL XD 400/4 amp. If I went with RF, and wanted to use an RF amp, I'd have to use the the PBR300X4 because of space concerns. I'm willing to look at any manufacturer, but here are my constraints:

- $350 max for each set of speakers (maybe willing to sway a little bit, but I don't want some $1500 speaker system)

- $350 max for amp (again, willing to sway, but the next criterion comes into play with this one)

- 2"x8.5"x7" max dimensions for amp (this is because it's inside the center console and I'd like to keep access to both amps without having to move either.

I assume 6.5" speakers are legitimately better than 5x7's (even though they require adapters on my truck - oh well). If I won't notice a difference, someone let me know.

Whenever I do the mids/highs, I'm probably going to get some of Second Skin's Spectrum and spray the doors with it. I may put some of their damplifier over it, I may not; I suppose it depends on what my budget is around then. I'd like to put damplifier behind the rear seats and under the carpet and above the headliner, but I REALLY don't feel like going through all that in the summer heat and around work.

Eventually, and this may be quite a while in the future, I plan to get a 3sixty.3 just so I can have a little more precision control over everything. In a year or two, I might upgrade the HU. I most likely won't upgrade the low-end because a. I'm satisfied, and b. the stealthbox wasn't exactly cheap...

This pretty obviously isn't a SPL build - I just want something that sounds awesome as a daily driver. I generally listen to rock, alt, a good bit of rap, and some techno/dub mixed in. Not a lot of country or talk radio (well, not much radio at all since I have my iPod in the car), but it does come up every now and then, I suppose.

Any opinions?

i see you have a blazer , what did you use for mids an highs ?

i got a 92 blazer that i have to do my mids an highs
