Neal82 Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Building 2 boxes for my boat... im trying to save a few $s by building the box out of 3/4" MDF and was thinking about coating the whole thing with a rubber undercoating material like rhino lining or something, since MDF will pretty much disinergrate when wet. The boxes will be 100% covered, inside and out (they're 4th order boxes) WATCHA THINK?!?!??!?!? option A - 3 Sheets of 3/4" MDF + Enough coating will be Under $100 Option B - 3 Sheets of treated plywood, will be over $120 Option C - 3 Sheets of Marine plywood, will be over $150 Quote Truck Polk 4x6 Plates Polk 4x6 Polk PA660 4Channel amp JVC USB Deck Wifes Car (under construction) Polk MoMo 6.5" Components Polk 6x9s Polk Pa660 4Channel amp Still trying to talk her into a sub or 2 Boat (under construction) Polk 5.25" Components Polk 6.5" Components 2x American Bass DX15s Polk PA660 4Channel 2x Polk PA880 Sub Amps (hopefully)
412 CVX Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 do the marine plywood and know you're safe. that's not terribly expensive Quote Just say no to Ground Pounder Customs. My temp system build log More box buildssome cars do over 170db with one sub, so clearly my two 12"s can do that in my car, with my knowledge too! look out bitches! I'm with captain stupid.
Neal82 Posted March 5, 2012 Author Report Posted March 5, 2012 Haha, well when arguing with the wife $60$ is alot... lol You dont think MDF fully covered in a Rhino Lining type rubber coating sound deadner would do better? 412 CVX Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 hard to say. but i'd personally do the marine wood or the treated plywood. just my personal opinion. 412 CVX Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 heck i'm not even convinced you'd need 3 sheets. i could do a design for you and find out exactly how many sheets you need.
