bassfreake Posted March 6, 2012 Report Posted March 6, 2012 I've got a pair of audiopipe TXX APX 15s in my trunk and recently they have started acting kinda funny... sometimes in the middle of a turn or when I excelerate or brake or at just random times while I'm driving they will get REALLY loud all of a sudden or sometimes even just start reverb humming loudly, also if I completely turn off my radio it will be quiet for a couple seconds and then my subs will suddenly start that reverb humming. Any clue what is causing this? When I first installed them and had them turned up high on the amp when I would shut my door while running my radio the subs would reverb really loud but when I turned it down just a little bit it stopped doing that... is this related? anyone ever encountered this before and/or know what's wrong and how to fix it? Today it was even as far as that even if I had my radio still running but turned all the way down it would still occasionally crank up loud enough that it was still loud and sounded like it might have been trying to do the beat of the song that was turned all the way down but still was a very reverb-like fuzzy sound. As best as I can figure it seems almost like some kind of power spike when it gets really loud randomly while it's running... but I don't know the first thing about how to make that not happen. and I'm sure random power spikes to my subs can't be good to my subs... I know my subs can handle way more than what is currently being pushed to them but I still don't like the idea of them getting hit with power spikes randomly. I'm running 2 TXX APX 15" subs on a 1800W AP amp. 0 gauge to the amp 8 gauge to the subs, subs are wired at 4 ohm. STEvil Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 Confirm ground is good. Body of car is not always a good ground.... Confirm RCA's are not getting pinched somewhere. Test alternate amp.. MickyMcD - "Capable of making some serious trouser flapping volumes at where's-my-testicles frequencies, the Servo-Drives used to be fairly jaw dropping..." Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through. Hammerdown... 1% no links to outside websites, business related FB/YT pages allowed.
bassfreake Posted March 7, 2012 Author Report Posted March 7, 2012 reverb - loud incoherent humming... kinda like the sound you get if you hook a mic up to a sound system and then put the mic up in front of a speaker that is hooked up to the same sound system ok I will take a look at the ground and RCAs when I get the chance, I think the ground was hooked up to a bolt that holds my back seat to my car, not sure I didn't connect the ground my neighbor hooked up my amp I just ran the power wire from the battery to the trunk and hooked up the subs to the amp after he connected it and I wired my subs, and I guess I'll have to figure out where the RCAs are run cuz those were done profesionally from my old system. I don't have an alternate amp... STEvil Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 strut tower usually has thicker metal. check that ground point was cleaned of paint so it makes good contact, give the cable a tug to make sure it hasnt come loose in the ring terminal and also pull to the side to make sure it doesnt twist side to side indicating it was improperly tightened/stripped. Seat grounds can be problematic. Sometimes fine, sometimes not.
