trimming port flares

Would it be ok to trim off a small section of the flare on the inside of the box for clearance purposes?

The part i want to cut is in red.

It would be on the flat part of the flare where the screw holes can be drilled out, not on the curve. the flat part is just short of 3/4" and i am looking to cut off 1/4".
