Sub suggestions?

I bought a Hifonics HFI 1000 class D amplifier that puts out 475 watts at 4 ohms and 750 watts at 2 ohms. I bought that to power a Hifoncis HFX 800 Watt subwoofer that is 400 watts at 4 ohms(also it only costed $30). In the first 20 minutes of listening to it the sub stopped hitting and there was a burning smell. I pulled over and smoke was pouring out of the port. When I pulled the sub out the wiring looked in good shape so I sent the sub back to be returned. On the same amp what sub do you suggest I get to run off that amp?

I suggest checking your electrical, checking your gain setting before even th inking about a new sub.. Also dont play clipped music.

yeah the hifi series is a entry level series from a entry level company per say. so i would be careful with the gain and bass boost. but if you get a clean signal from the head unit and amp a Audioque SDC2.5 series woofer or a sundown SA would perform well on 750 rms thats if the amp even supply's that.

And for one speaker i would try to get a 15" for more cone area!
