So my cardboard covering my spare has been looking a little saggy lately What is a good direction to go about fixing this.

My ideas right now are using 1/2" MDF to cover it or a couple layers of ply. This is not a VS thread. I'm just looking for suggestions on what to do for a good price and minimal weight.

having easy access to the spare is not neccessary but it would be pretty cool if I could put a hinge and door for access to the spare.

When i had a spare tire well i just used plywood and carpeted it seprately so i didnt have to raise the whole carpet if i needed to use it.

I like that idea. did you use one sheet of ply or 2? the guys at the local shop suggested that I use at least 5/8" material but that seems a little unnecessary to me
