MECHMAN Posted June 5, 2012 Author Report Share Posted June 5, 2012 (edited) 1/0 cable costs twice as much as 2 gauge cable, more like a $35 difference. Also, if you look at any standard resistance chart for 12 volts DC showing actual resistance of a 4 foot long 2 gauge cable, you will see that there is minimal voltage drop, even at 300 amps of current flow. 2 gauge cable is sufficient for a short run for almost any alternator we sell. I realize everyone wants to wire every possible thing with 1/0 gauge or larger cable, but it is a waste of time and money if it doesn't make an improvement of the performance of the system.
