Box (of Itself) vs. wall (in vehicle) based on listening position

After looking at some system designs on here I noticed how what might be one design to a person can actually be a different design based on where a person listens to it. This is in theory, but feel free to chime in. Original box designs based on the12volt(dot)com.

I've always wondered about this. If this is true then it explains some of the phenomenon people see with windows up/down and the cabin acting like a part of the enclosure Reminds me of people duct taping the air vents to squeeze out a couple extra tenths on the meter.
