LoudPursuit Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 Hi Everyone, I have been having some issues with the voltage spiking in my car recently and I am assuming it is a shot regulator in my alternator. Before I send this in for warrenty I wanted to ensure that I had completed everything correctly and that the voltage spikes were not caused by something I did wrong. I completed the Big Three on my car about the same time as I installed my alt and everything seemed fine. I did this by running a positive from the alt directly to the battery, grounded the engine block and the battery negative to the chasis. The thing is my car is PCM controlled and there is a power transfer box under the hood which I bypassed by running the line directly to the battery. The question here is, would running the power line directly to the battery and bypassing the transfer box be enough to cause voltage spikes? Just an FYI I uninstalled my mechman recently and have a stock alternator in temporarily and still see voltage spike up to ~16.5 volts. Does anyone have any knowledge about PCM controlled vehicles? This is really becoming an issue and I dont want my electronics to fry.
