Something that is old tech doesn't mean that it doesn't work it means that there are better options then using a capacitor.

Well, i guess a cap that is inline with a strong electrical system would help. But you need to think about how a cap works. It discharges extreemly quickly. And it takes longer to charge back up than it discharges. You need to also understand how music works to. Music is dynamic. Even bass, it has harmonics and noise that you don;t really notice when just listening to it. Try just playing your subs and see how much is actually getting through to them, music has kick drum beats, bass guitar and even some transient stuff from electric guitar, synthisizers, vocals, snares, toms, and a multitude of other things.

The theory behind a cap is to give you tighter bass when i kick drum hits. But most music has so much going on that that cap is going to be running on empty most the time and your charging system is going to be trying to fill that cap instead of just sending current to your amps. That is why most people recommend batteries over caps.

But, if you have a good or great alternator, a moderate battery bank nad add a cap to just fill in the gap for the spikes in current draw you are better off than just throwing a cap in-line on a weak charging system.

Yes, batteries are heavier than a cap, but there is no such thing as free energy and caps, even 50 farad don't even hold a candle to even a cheap battery as are as stored energy.

plus, capacitors can only discharge so much energy over a set amount of time no matter how much draw you place on them.

There are many pro's and con's to using a cap, but if you want to use one make sure you have covered your electrical foundation first. That way you arent just adding another leech onto a weak system.
