bniichel Posted October 27, 2012 Report Posted October 27, 2012 I'm looking into getting some new subs to hook up to my kicker zx1500.1 i just got from a friend. I know the amp isnt 1ohm stable but I have a question about hooking up 3 4ohm 12" subs. I have 2 new alpine type e 12's that are 4ohm 250rms/750peak and i was thinking about buying a third but im not sure if its a good idea. I know the amp is overpowering the 2 I have hooked up currently. doing 3 would drop it down to 1.34ohms. I know its not far from 1ohm but this is still foreign to me. Do you think the amp could handle it without doing damage over time? Or should I just invest in one really nice dvc 12 or 15 that would be wired at 2 ohms? I wish i had some friends that were more into car audio so I could just ask them but unfortunitly thats not an option. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!
soundstream15 Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 That amp won't last long at 1ohm, I tried it, as for the subs I would sell them and get your self some good subs, look into dc audio, Skar, sundown ect. How much you looking to spend bc some ppl will say price is not a prob but when it all adds up then they have a prob lol

Either a 15 or 18 and it will slam harder than three type e's 1998 Pontiac grand prix gtp supercharged2 12" Obsidain Audio V.1 on a 2011 zx1500.1 at 2 ohms. 20ft of Knuconceptz CCA 0 Guage. 2nd Battery is a Shurken BT-120. Box is 3.5cu tuned at 31.8hz sealed off from the trunk. 14sqft of Dynamat on the Rear deck top & bottom. Soon to be more for doors/roof. Gets low & loud Did a 140.5 Sealed at Battle of the boom in June 2013 dropping to 12.7v (need a alt mines going bad)
TRON Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 Dual voice coils are by far a better option because they can be wired for different impedance loads at your amp. Also, they have higher power handling. I'd get a subwoofer with dual 1ohm coils, wire the coils in series for a 2ohm load at your amp. Look at Sundown Z series or like others said, DC level 3 or 4. If you feed your amp with squeaky clean power & signal it will sever you well for a long time.
