Made my first cut and it was a success. Acutally cuts it like butter. I'll go ahead and change the blade when I'm done with this before I try to cut any wood LOL!

Box bottom put together, nothing attached yet.

Taking a look at it, I don't like how it's got that much space. So I decided to change it up a little.

1397821_599183210141160_639699024_o.jpg

Got it all tightened up, and sitting flush with the bottom.

Got the 4 corners cut

1396844_599183270141154_2086130045_o.jpg

Again, all damn near perfect cuts

1402189_599183293474485_1116256671_o.jpg

Mocked up. I dropped the top down below the spot where it widens out. This will give me a nice tight box. To hold them in, I'll be adding in a couple of wings, when the 3 boxes are all put together, and make some mounts for tie downs. That's later though.

793822_599183316807816_897900853_o.jpg

Taped them so that I could get accurate measurements for the top cross pieces. See the side on here.

Front top piece. This one is a little small, but I'll make the adjustment for the rest of them. All of these joints are going to be widened about 1/16" each, so this will widen out a touch. I'm thinking about putting in some deadener too. But we'll see how much room I have when it's done.

1397848_599183370141144_1962327581_o.jpg

Here are some of the things I picked up from Depot yesterday for this. A piece of steel to do the brazing on, a square, an extension hose for the gas, and some brazing rods. I actually picked up the brown one a while back but found out that the aluminum brazing is mainly used with the blue ones. Not sure if the brown package is usable or not. I'll give it a try.

1397689_599183393474475_1587381914_o.jpg

All the pieces ready to be sanded a bit and then be put together and brazed.

1396953_599183410141140_59078390_o.jpg

Marked the fence on my chop saw so that I could do one box before I cut 5 more boxes worth. That way if the first box isn't going to work or isn't strong enough, I don't waste time and money by cutting all these other pieces.

1403594_599183423474472_95709543_o.jpg

Next step is to clean off this bench, from the truck project. After that I'll get some durrock down on the bench and put the steel plate to it. Hopefully with the durrock on the bench, I can prevent too much heat getting to it and not cause a fire. Just in case I'll have a fire extinguisher handy. After that, I can get the first box done up.

1421123_599183443474470_977531249_o.jpg

So that's it for tonight. Tomorrow I'll get some more done. Hopefully have a box put together to show you guys.

Thanks for checking in!

Ok let's get on with it.

Pics and videos coming up!

Going to get the pieces brushed up with the wire wheel on my bench grinder.

1398861_599738063419008_279301955_o.jpg

And we have failure. Complete failure. I'm sure it's operator error, but I can't figure it out. I'm defeated officially with this one. I guess I'll have to go back to the drawing board.

So here's a little video I shot explaining what the new design is. Pics after are described as well.

At the bottom there, you may not be able to see it, but I had some L-brackets that held the floor up. Decided to use those to put a piece of wood on as a floor.

1403753_599743950085086_1103089771_o.jpg

This is the space that the batteries are supposed to fit in.

977027_599743943418420_1737106410_o.jpg

Got a piece cut to put the batteries on for mock up. it's only 1/4" mdf, but it'll work for now. The floor base will be 1/2" birch. So it's not much thicker than this.

1400790_599743946751753_842727039_o.jpg

Got the 3 batteries stacked. They're not in the cubby itself, but this is giving me an idea of height.

966034_599743976751750_437977781_o.jpg

There's some space above the batteries. This is good. Again, I only need about another 1/4".

1400719_599744003418414_1090174230_o.jpg

Measuring it, to the edge of that, I have about 5/8" - 3/4". So plenty to spare without any cutting.

859855_599744000085081_682200824_o.jpg

Looking at it, measuring behind the wall, I have about 1 1/2" to cut up if I need to.

1399046_599744040085077_1314354188_o.jpg

So here's the second battery moved back to the back of the fender.

977331_599744056751742_2000121322_o.jpg

Gives me about 2 1/2" - 2 1/2" more depth. This is the deepest battery, the top one won't go back as far. SO I'm going to estimate about an 1 1/2" - 1 3/4" to play with for depth.

1404921_599744060085075_604280531_o.jpg

Needed to remove that foam in there a bit, to get the second battery to slide over as far as I could get it.

That's good. So you can see the, there's some trimming of the metal right there that needs to happen for the bottom battery to get in there.

964282_599744100085071_906117204_o.jpg

Wider view.

1402273_599744116751736_142526409_o.jpg

Here it is all the way back. Also, it's probably going to have to go with the angle of the fender, and not squared up like the bottom one.

1425278_599744136751734_1094353343_o.jpg

Here you can see the top two angled and the bottom one is squared up. I'll have to see how it works when I get the box built.

1400318_599744150085066_178008185_o.jpg

Here's another way I could go if I end up needing 8 total batteries. I love these little guys.

1403646_599744170085064_2088253199_o.jpg

Box building tomorrow. I think I'm definitely moving in the right direction now.

Thanks for checking in. More tomorrow.

Ok this is what i got done yesterday and tonight. Probably doesn't look like much, but last night was about a half hour to 45 minutes, and tonight was about an hours worth. LIttle bits at a time. Tomorrow night an hour or so more. This is my life! LOL But it's all I have to work with. If I can sustain it, then there should be pretty good progress every other day at least. We'll see.

Ok on with the pics!! First up, last nights work.

Driver side vent out, and pulling some deadener back.

977322_600734533319361_1278979815_o.jpg

Passenger side vent out and pulling foam and deander.

1402274_600734536652694_1855022219_o.jpg

Cleaned up, line drawn, and ready to cut.

1417716_600734566652691_1702502567_o.jpg

Driver side cut. Wasn't as close to straight down as I wanted it to be. I just cant' go in any further or I'm cutting into the well and that wouldn't be good. So I'll have to figure out how to make this work.

1398868_600734576652690_55767394_o.jpg

Passenger side cut. Pretty much the same thing on this side. I'll have to figure out how to make it work. I can still get another quarter inch out of this one if I need to. But only time will tell. Time to get down to business now.

1398258_600734583319356_111073167_o.jpg

Now today's work.

Got a couple of tools today for the curves and contours.

1412324_600734609986020_796396530_o.jpg

These things are pretty cool. They just bend and are soft. These will help get close to the contours of the trunk. They're not actually meant for this. They're actually meant to like hold extension cords in a coil, or hold ropes, or whatever else. But because of their pliability I thought they'd be perfect for this.

1071242_600734619986019_182300607_o.jpg

Kind of like this.

1403269_600734639986017_1498260742_o.jpg

Better view. Bend it until you get your shape. Takes some work. But you get the idea.

1456788_600734656652682_159465579_n.jpg

Got the amp rack in for the first time since it was glassed!

1401953_600734676652680_68285547_o.jpg

Remember that the back wall was terribly out of shape and not straight. Got that fixed! Grace in the back ground grazing on weeds! LOL

Now it's time to get busy. Started with the cubbies because I knew those would be the toughest to do. Driver side. Bending it up until i think it's real close. This isn't going to be perfect, but it gets me close enough and after that some trimming and it'll be good.

1008825_600734709986010_1443965068_o.jpg

Take the stick and put it on some construction board

1465792_600734729986008_1618454169_o.jpg

Traced it with a sharpie

1400651_600734743319340_850983059_o.jpg

A little love with the scissors and we have a template started.

1462560_600734756652672_479319142_o.jpg

Not too bad. Did some trimming, a little too much on the left side there where you see the blue tape. The tape puts it back to where it needs to be.

885850_600734776652670_1964700827_o.jpg

You can see how close it is here. I didn't have to trim that part. Oh yeah!

1399770_600734796652668_841464476_o.jpg

Continuing on, I grabbed my other contour measuring tool and found this radius. See how this works?

737258_600734813319333_1219649354_o.jpg

Now the driver side template is done.

1400410_600734833319331_776260994_o.jpg

Made it so it goes right up to the amp rack, I'll probably rabbet out a bit of the base board, so it actually sits above the amp rack to keep it in place. I'm planning to add an inch all the way around the amp rack for overlay.

1402956_600734846652663_632471717_o.jpg

Now time for the passenger side.

1401617_600734859985995_1533017232_o.jpg

Same thing, started with the stick in the cubby

737265_600734869985994_703760866_o.jpg

Moved around taping and cutting

919207_600734893319325_1229132242_o.jpg

Then got the top part cut. Now it's all one piece.

1417539_600734913319323_458900736_o.jpg

Just another view. Next up, I need to get it out of there, and get it cut into pieces of 1/4" MDF. From there, I'll transfer it to 3/4" Birch. Also need to get a rivnut kit so I can attach it to the trunk floor as well.

1009719_600734926652655_1534002860_o.jpg

Also got a couple things today. Only one can I show you though. The others are at work and I had left early so I'll have to get pics tomorrow. BUT IT WILL BE WELLLLLL WORTH THE WAIT I PROMISE!!!

Got this from amazon today! Hmmmmm wonder what this could be for!! For those that already know, SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Not a huge deal but a pretty cool little additional project I think!

1397495_600745613318253_999450582_o.jpg

So that's all for today.

Tomorrow, I'll plan on getting the MDF pieces cut out with the Jig Saw, and ready for the birch and router. I know, an extra step, but I think it'll be ok. I have the MDF and I'm ok with that. I do have to figure out, if I want to go across the amp rack with the base board. It would go along the back wall, shown below, and come out about an inch. I'll decide that when I get started tomorrow. The purpose would be to link the two sides together, as well as, possibly to put led's under it.

1400511_600734686652679_1988199588_o.jpg

The other thing is I wish I could figure out where the enclosure was going. Then I could make the board 3 separate pieces. I'll see if I can't figure that out tomorrow too. Maybe I won't get all the way to cutting tomorrow. I might just have to wait and do some more measuring and marking. I'm just rambling.

That's it tonight. Thanks for checking in!

So I've got a couple little updates.

First one is this, the little secret project I was talking about before. Another piece to that.

1472884_600962566629891_1192504557_n.jpg

Then there's the big update. So I sold my XL 15's I got from Jon Rabe (Skyhighcaraudio in case you live under a rock), to Leo. I regretted it the day I packed them up and dropped them off. Leo probably doesn't regret getting them, but I can understand that. So ever since I said I was going to get another set of XL's. That would be the final goal. Well, some stars aligned, and Darion (Fosgatefeind) had a pair of perfect condition xl's up for sale. They happened to have the orange carbon fiber dust caps that I wanted to go with the theme of the install. Also has reinforced triple joints, extra spider, etc. Beef!! Well like I said the stars aligned and I was able to get them from him. They arrived yesterday, and I of course left work early to get my kids, and they came after that.

So I just got to work a little while ago, and was worried all the way here about the condition of the boxes. I figured UPS drop kicked them off the truck or something like they normally do. Well let's take a look!!!!

1425756_600962576629890_1192324431_n.jpg

1450780_600962573296557_1207641298_n.jpg

Direct lead

995555_600962599963221_1032777963_n.jpg

And that ass

1467341_600962609963220_1153587191_n.jpg

Ohh MY OH MY THAT ASS!!!!

1395111_600962626629885_1827870708_n.jpg

Second one, just as beautiful as it's twin sister

1425603_600962643296550_2103077328_n.jpg

And the beautiful ass runs in the family! Yummy!!!

1390675_600962649963216_682170769_n.jpg

So after picking these up, I think I'm gonna have to go with a triple baffle. These things are beefy. And the 12's basket on that XL motor makes them sooooo big!! I don't remember them looking so big on the 15's!

Very excited to get these on my DMM and check em out and then get them in the car. Still a ways off from that, but I'll be counting days! WOOT!!

So as I said before I can only manage little bits at a time. Hour here, hour there, some more time invested on the weekends sometimes. So it's going to be slow, but it hopefully will be steady.

I got another hour or so in tonight, and managed to get the floor template cut and ready. Let's take a look.

Laid out some 1/4" MDF to get the template drawn out. That's 2 sheets there. It's only 2' x 4' per sheet.

1401526_601957133197101_111872881_o.jpg

needed one more piece for the middle.

1404762_601957129863768_410923940_o.jpg

Forgot about some trimming that needed to be done, you can see here. Black lines

1417737_601957126530435_1922024004_o.jpg

And here.

1402864_601957166530431_88708103_o.jpg

Got it all laid out and in place

1399356_601957176530430_876724073_o.jpg

tape to hold it in place while it's traced out.

1425404_601957209863760_2007584938_o.jpg

and got it drawn out. 3 pieces. In here I did not do a piece at the bottom because it's not going to go in in one piece because of how wide it is. Even if I cut it in the middle left to right, it'll still not fit. So I'll leave that out for now.

1401508_601957226530425_1535604237_o.jpg

Passenger side cut out

1398920_601957243197090_776574139_o.jpg

Top middle cut out

1404414_601957373197077_1652862454_o.jpg

and then the driver side cut out and put it all together.

1403228_601957593197055_1755883659_o.jpg

Had some minor trimming to do, but it's in.

1396949_601957933197021_355220525_o.jpg

Driver side

1403723_601958019863679_641084872_o.jpg

Passenger side. Next up is getting this transferred onto 3/4" birch. I think before that happens, we'll have to figure out where the enclosure is going to come back to.

904170_601958049863676_30087368_o.jpg

So that's pretty much it for tonight. Like I said little bits at a time.
