BOX TUNNING QUESTIONNS

is there a rule of thumb on how to tune a box if you want to make it bigger..? i want to build a box for 2 12's. 5FT^3 idk what tuning. I like the lows, and flexx, but i also dont want to miss out on the higher notes. should i tune the box 30hz, or 35hz or anything between. i really do want to hear the lowss and feel it, but i recently built a 2.6ft^3 box for a single type r tuned to 30hz and it was LOW, like LOW LOW, and i missed out on the higher bass notes.. any suggestions on what tunning?? and is there a rule of thumb on tunning based on how much space you give each sub in the boxx???
