raolito1980
I'm installing my second battery under the hood of my 2012 Sierra in the reserve spot. My question is do I have to run a positive run to the second battery or can I run one from the alternator to my second battery? Also do I need to do the big three on both batteries? I was planning on running one positive to the second battery from the alternator. Thanks any input. 2012 GMC SIerra CC System Build Headunit--Stock Sub Amp--DC 2.0k Subs--2-SA8v2's Enclosure--Need one made!! 08tahoe
yes, you can run a positive from your alternator to your second battery. You don't have to do the big three on both batteries but I would.

08tahoe
Just in case you don't already know, when you do your big 3 just make sure to replace the 2 gauge ground wire that runs through the ground clamp (battery current censor clamp) to 1/0 gauge. Thx. Yes I was going to just add another ground 1/0 with the Big 3. 2012 GMC SIerra CC System Build Headunit--Stock Sub Amp--DC 2.0k Subs--2-SA8v2's Enclosure--Need one made!! 08tahoe
Hey have you installed your second batt yet? When I said you could do your big 3 on both batts i didn't think about the ground clamp sensor at the time. On cars without clamp sensors it would be fine but not on newer gm's. Don't ground your second batt to the frame. Run a ground from your second batt to your main batt and then the ground running from your main batt to the frame is the one that you wanna change to 1/0, but you have to replace it completely you cant just add another one. The reason this is, is because the ground clamp sensor measures the current so the alt can charge properly. So if your only running your stock alt or only one alt then the only ground should be going through that ground sensor clamp if not the clamp wont see the extra current from the batt/batts and the alt won'charge properly.
