lights dimming at idle after HO alt

Are you running enough batteries to actually hold the power. Without reserve all the alternators in the world would not help you. Also make sure you alt wires are big enough, but im sure you have already done that.

Is the alternator case grounded properly? Just using the mounting bolts to the motor isnt always enough.

Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through.

What many people don't understand is that there is a small case 6 phase hairpin and a large case 6 phase hairpin... the small case hairpin which is what a lot of other alternator places tend to sell because it's extremely easy to find in junk yards because so many Toyotas, Hondas and other vehicles have them. These alternators when pushed over 240~ amps do crap idle output because of the way the stator is configured (This is our HP series line). Then you have the large case which a whole different monster that can do large amounts of output at idle (This is our XP Series). Don't be fooled thinking a small case 270 denso hairpin is a large case 270 denso hairpin. The 270 large case will walk circles around the small case 270 and laugh at it. The large case 6 phase units turn on at 300-350 engine RPM... there is ZERO issues with idle output on these alternators while a 320 amp small case hairpin wont even turn on until 650 RPM and even then its only doing 20-35 amps at idle while the large case one is doing 180+

Lots of people are ill-informed and get taken advantage of.. it's honestly sad and disturbing at the same time.

To tell the truth (almost) nobody in the alt scene tells the truth, almost no alternators are rated at continuous RMS output..
