caskinsro Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 I am currently on my 4th box for these things, and I can not find one that is suited for my car (99' Mercury Cougar.) I have done a few boxes ranging from 1.45ft^ @ 30 hz up to 2.1 ft^ @ 35 hz, but they just wont seem to hit any notes what-so-ever. They destroy all the lows, but if I am listening to normal music... can't even tell they are there. I am running a HiFonics BZR-1700, 250 amp alternator (big 3 done) on full 0 gauge. I have 2 Yellow tops for extra power, both are rig batteries, 1900 CCA. I do not think power is an issue. Ruled it out with volt meters, hitting 38.7 volts clean (tuned with SMD DD1) I am not the smartest person when it comes to systems, more of an engine person. I love my music and I am quite saddened by these subs. I can see their potential and everything, but I may have done something wrong. If anyone could give me a hand, figure out what I may have done wrong I would greatly appreciate it ~ New to the forums. Very new to the scene. First ported setup... Right now they sound good when playing some mixes, but not with normal music. Only vid I have of them
Crandis16 Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 mixes.. like Decaf? what do you consider normal music? My Red zx2 Build Log My Black zx2 Build Log My Red zx2 UBL
Neckbeard Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 is the 1.45ft^ and 2.1ft^ before or after displacement? Build log, Super slow!!: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/168096-slow-neckbeards-1970-opel-gt/
Crandis16 Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 is the 1.45ft^ and 2.1ft^ before or after displacement? it's after displacement (net volume) Edit: ~1.5 ft^3 after port displacement My Red zx2 Build Log My Black zx2 Build Log My Red zx2 UBL
caskinsro Posted February 5, 2013 Author Report Posted February 5, 2013 It is after displacement. Forget before hand, but I made it to suit the subs recommendations or whatnot. Not all that happy lol Normal music is just that. Country, rock, rap, everyday listening songs, not Dubstep and whatnot lol
Neckbeard Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 well, the sa-8s only need 0.5~0.75ft^, so a 1.25ft^ would be a perfect box. and tuned to 30hz will not play highs very good. Im assuming you arent listening to decaf so there is no need to tune that low. would tune to like 35~39 Build log, Super slow!!: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/168096-slow-neckbeards-1970-opel-gt/

I don't feel comfortable throwing numbers out there for you. but personally if I wanted a daily music box then I would tune to ~38hz My Red zx2 Build Log My Black zx2 Build Log My Red zx2 UBL
caskinsro Posted February 5, 2013 Author Report Posted February 5, 2013 So is it just the nature of these subs? Figure after trying every box out there I am just SOL, but figured I could ask around. I know cone is king, but with the Sundown SA line, is it just the way they are? I have seen hundreds of video's of the 8's just rocking cars, flexing everything... in mine... my mirror don't even shake. Thats why I am a bit stumped...
Neckbeard Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 honestly, i think your box is tuned to high, what is your box tuned to right now? Build log, Super slow!!: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/168096-slow-neckbeards-1970-opel-gt/

Thats why I am a bit stumped... you're just tuned too low for most basslines. once you tune low you should definely go with some music that's been messed with (Decaf, Bigpimpin91) to let your system shine.
