Moley Posted March 4, 2013 Report Posted March 4, 2013 Hi guys. Been a long time since I posted. Here's my issue. I have a Hifonics brz2100.1D. My alternator is 110 amps. (They don't make H/O alts for my car yet which is a genesis coupe so I'm stuck with it.) I have the Big 3 and replaced my starting wet cell battery with a Kinetik 1200. I chose the 1200 cause it had reverse terminals which worked with my stock wiring. The voltage drop and dimming is a little less then with the wet cell but it's not solved yet. I'm wondering if adding a second 1200 in the trunk will do the trick. I'd be happy with slight dimming but I would like to know if it will be worth it to pull the trigger on another 1200.

Moley Posted March 5, 2013 Author Report Posted March 5, 2013 Sucks to have a stock alt doesn't it. I'm sure another battery would help but I don't want to shell out the money if it doesn't help enough. I think what I'm going to do is hook up my original starting wet cell in the back for a bit (not long enough to damage either battery) and see if that helps at all. If it does at least a little then I'm sure an AGM will be better. Fingers crossed.
D-train-13k Posted March 5, 2013 Report Posted March 5, 2013 having that wet cell if its not already damaged can damage your kinetic. wet cells usually go bad by dying cells. creating resistance and heating up your battery. Moley Posted March 5, 2013 Author Report Posted March 5, 2013 I'm gonna try the wet cell out of curiosity for a few minutes and go from there. One thing though isn't it bad to run two different size batteries even if they are the same make. Two 1200's should be enough for 2000 rms no?

Moley Posted March 5, 2013 Author Report Posted March 5, 2013 Yup big 3 is done with 1/0 gauge and 1/0 gauge amp power/ground wire. Helped a bit. System hits hard as hell and I've had it for a long time and amp still runs fine even though voltage drop but during the winter in the dark hours I just got sick of the dimming. I hate looking like a strob light going down the street. I also too want to keep the batteries as light as possible as it's a sports car. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqCS1agugtg
