On the Ford Focus, a VERY common issue is the bottom motor mount on the back of the motor can get rocks stuck in and around it, and up in Canada, Ice often builds up around it. What this causes is the motor vibrations not to be dampened properly by the motor mount. So any time an excessive vibration from the engine happens, due to the electrical load of the alternator sometimes, or going into gear at lower RPM, it CAN cause the car to vibrate intensely.

There could definitely be other issues, but I know that motor mount is an extremely common issue!

He hit it on the head, I think they call it the transmission mount when you have to buy the part but you will get the idea. Sounds like something that would't be releated but this will prob fix your problem.
