Rhino1 Posted June 25, 2013 Report Posted June 25, 2013 I have a 2004 Silverado with factory bose. I picked up a fosgate 3sixty.3 and want to integrate with a couple amps. For hooking up the 360, where do I tap the factory harness. I have the back of my center console off and see the blue plug and white plug going into the factory bose amp. Is this where I want to tap the wires and go hi-level into the 360? Tap the blue harness and unplug the white (I assume the white is the out, and the blue from the deck) Or do I have it all wrong and need to convert a left and right to low level RCA off the blue plug and run it to the 360?
Rhino1 Posted June 26, 2013 Author Report Posted June 26, 2013 anyone....someone has to know the answer Yo Steve - help an FNG out brother!!
goodvibez Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 Umm, did you check the back of the factory head unit? Thats where most hilevel signal wires are tapped into for this sort of thing. If they are not there there should be a separate harness that goes from the HU to the bose amp. I think there are also two harnesses that go into the bose amp so it's also possible that the speaker wires go into the amp first then to the HU. I'm just guessing but I think that amp is for the bose subwoofer only, I don't think it powers the door speakers but I could be wrong. But if you are adding more amps what are they for? Are you upgrading the speakers? If not I wouldn't think you need to feed them more power, bose speakers I think use some funky ohm's and I wouldn't recommend adding amps. What would help is taking out the HU and posting a picture of the harnesses on the back of the HU and a pic of the harnesses that go into the bose amp. I'm pretty familiar with most GM audio wiring, I have an 03' sierra but not so much familiar with gm's that have bose stuff.Lastly does yours have the cd changer separate from the HU? If so you may want to look through that harness and see what you find. I"ll try and help you as much as I can, but we need more information. Funny how the people who have a louder system than you will usually give you a compliment about your setup because they know how much blood, sweat, time, and money you put into it. The people who criticize or try and one up you....have a p.o.s to no system at all and will tell you all about this "other" guys system! Saddley I'm sure if I meet this "other" guy...he will probably tell me he thinks your just as annoying as I think you are! I'm not compensating, just proud of fabricating! Rhino1 Posted June 27, 2013 Author Report Posted June 27, 2013 I am adding 2 amps, a 100.1 bd and a 800.4. Replacing all the speakers, adding the 3sixty.3. I pulled the head unit but did not take a pic, it appears to be the same wire to the amp, but then to your point it only looks like the output of the amp is a small amount of wires - I found a post that someone said this is the output to the subwoofer. I also found several posts that say the entire system is amplified and the speakers are all 2ohm to make the amp more efficient and creating more power for the speakers = nicer louder sound. so where is the output to the amp? So my issue - I hooked up the 3sixty.3 to the speaker wires going into the factory bose amp - when I set up the 3sixty.3, the level coming in was super low - like a low level input not a high level input. The sound was maybe 1/8 to 1/4 of the graph. U-tube videos show factory inputs coming in "peaking" the graph. Rockford also says the same thing, so you back down the volume knob to keep it in the green. So net, when hooked up, there was no sound. I assumed that I was trying to hook a low level into a high level input - maybe I need to convert the speaker wires to RCA and then run through the 3sixty.3. I called Rockford they said try and catch it after the amp - problem is - I do not see where its after the amp - all those wires plug in, but don't go anywhere? Or I can't see them. To me it makes no sense? I should have received peak sound off those speaker wires. So now I am thinking I buy RCA hi to low converters and come in on the RCA low side of the 3sixty.3 and see if I get sound - I don't want to spend money to test a theory and thought someone has to have hooked one up to a Silverado with Bose and knows exactly what to do and what I am experiencing. Also, I find posts everywhere that show using rca converter to hook up Subs and an Amp to the factory bose system. But with a 3sixty.3 they claim it takes high or low input so you do not need this - the 3sixty.3 does it.
goodvibez Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 ok I had to read that a few times but I think I get where you are at. Have you found a pin out on the harness your going into? Just to make sure you are getting the right wires. I know at least four of them are for the sub signal wires. So if you were to tap into those that might be giving you the low signal?Does your system have a separate disk changer? That could also be a source for signal wires! Rhino1 Posted June 27, 2013 Author Report Posted June 27, 2013 6 disc changer is part of the radio, not separate. For the wires, yea I am catching it right at the plug into the amp. If I recall, when hooking up a sub you tap the left and right rear channels and convert them to low level RCA to an external amp for base. Maybe that is what I do, just convert left and right front and rears to RCA plugs and go to the 3sixty? But shoot that is several pair of converters and more RCAs. Probably $60 to $100 in parts? There must be a place, or specific way to tap it Bose speaker wires. Heck the Addison bit one would have the same issue, and I know they have been installed where Bose is. Someone on the forum has to know the answer.
goodvibez Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 Yeah you shouldn't have to convert to rca's that would kinda of defeat one of the strong points of the rf360.3.
