Bad battery or alt?

My battery sometimes has a voltage between about 12.2 and 11.3 volts, but other times is fine, do i need a new battery or new alternator?

Let the battery sit overnight then in the morning if the resting voltage is 11.xx you most likely need a new bat how old is it?

Is that resting or with car Running?

well sometimes after sitting over night my music will turn on and then others it wont. My truck is a 2000, i bought it about 3 years ago, i personally have never changed the battery, not sure about the previous owner

When the car is running it rests near 12.2 would lead me to believe your alt could be dead but how long has it been doing this? Has your battery died and you had to recharge it recently?

never had to recharge it. it just started about a month ago. I have tested the voltage at my power wire in the car when my music wouldnt turn on and it was at .6 volts, but then other days it will be perfectly fine and work and then just shut off randomly while driving so im not too sure if its my alt

I just want to know which it may be before i buy a battery and its not the battery or the alt and its not the alt

Your battery isn't dying but its resting at 12 volts that's strange, I would watch it closely so it doesn't die on you and leave you stranded. Take your car to AutoZone or an auto parts store close to you and see if they will test your alt to see if it's charging

Your battery isn't dying but its resting at 12 volts that's strange, I would watch it closely so it doesn't die on you and leave you stranded. Take your car to AutoZone or an auto parts store close to you and see if they will test your alt to see if it's charging

one of the days that my amps wouldnt turn on i tested all my power wires and what not, my power wire going to my amp was at 0.4 volts. but why would my alt charge some days, but not others? I will have them take a look at it
