95neon_thumper82 Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 ok so after boomzoom pointed out that I was pushing my subs at less than half rms... I went and looked. and sure enough. my amp SUX! so now I'm shopping for something more suitable. first a lil bit about my subs: I have two ten inch mtx thunder 7k s. 4 ohm impedance. they are in a sealed 7523 cu in box. I'd like to be able to slighty overpower these just to full potential. but full rms would be suitable. currently they are wired parallel. and I'd like to keep it that way. so here's what I'm looking at. Belva BB2000D http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_65811_Belva-BB2000D.html I'm liking that it's 900w at 2 ohms. perfect for pishing the wau I want to. and of course that price is beautiful. Sound Storm SSL F1200M http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17622_Sound-Storm-SSL-F1200M.html this one shows 4 ohm as the only impedance. but I've got fans to install to cool it down if it doesn't like 2 ohm and I'm thinking at 2 ohm it would be close to 800 like I want... I'm not particularly fond of this one but hey for the price it should be considered. Crunch DRA1850.1D http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_67961_Crunch-DRA1850.1D.html I'm liking this one also... again 450w per sub in parallel. perfect for pushing a lil bit harder than rms and the price is nice. Audiobahn 1200W Mono Block Amplifier http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00845AE9K/ref=mp_s_a_1_37?qid=1372737195&sr=8-37π=SL75 I like this one also. I know the brand is decent. and the power is nice. and so is the price. sp there is what I've found. if you have other thing for mr to consider. other amps or what ever let mr know. otherwise tell mr what you think of these. I want to order tomorrow night so. HELP! thanks in advance <img src=http://i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w610/beastly666bassboy/IMG_9611192581855_zps9b9b76be.jpg border=0 alt= height="75" width="800"> Growing old is necessary... growing up is an option! CleanSierra Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 You've got those subs in 4+ cubes sealed? Why don't you get them out of that crap sealed box and build a nice ported box for them? 2 cubes per sub sealed seems way too much. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
CleanSierra Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 And the Belva it's fused at the highest rating, so it's likely going to be the best performer of the amps you listed. Not my favorite choice in amps, but if it's where you're at, then that would probably be the one I suggested. Surely your value of 7523(4.35 cubic feet) cubic inches is wrong. Ported, those subs probably want a cube a piece. If you feed those things tons of power with NO backpressure in the box, you'll launch those cones right off of the spiders, this is just my guess. So how big is the box REALLY, let's start there Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
95neon_thumper82 Posted July 2, 2013 Author Report Posted July 2, 2013 its actually quite a large box the outside dimensions are 27x15x29 inches lots of bracing and everything accounted for. the calculator I used recommend that large of a box so I built that large of a box. lol. oh and the calculator I used is an android based thing... but that is not my final box... it was my first build so I got more calculations coming. 4th order or ported will be next for sure but I do like sealed too. she takes up A LOT of trunk space bahaha oh and its about as airtight as you can get dude I spared no expense with the silicon lmno! I'm liking the belva myself. <img src=http://i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w610/beastly666bassboy/IMG_9611192581855_zps9b9b76be.jpg border=0 alt= height="75" width="800"> Growing old is necessary... growing up is an option! CleanSierra Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 I've got 9208 cubic inches before any sub before any sub or bracing displacements. That it's about 5.3 cubic feet. Your 10" subs are really asking for as much sealed airspace as most ported 12s run? I'm skeptical man, seems Fucking monstrous to me. I'm also accounting for what appears to be a double baffle. Also, what would you're plan be for a 4th order in the trunk? What would your plan be to get the sound into the cabin? I think maybe you should try your hand at a simple ported box before you try to tackle a bandpass box. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
CleanSierra Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Btw, you're saying you used an Android app, uninstall that piece of shit now! You go by manufacturer specs for what the SUB needs, not some janky app. I'm glad you're happy with the sound of the subs, but my bet is with the RIGHT and proper design, you'll be happier. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

I built it to last a while its actually not baffled at all. Here's a pic of right becore I put the top on it. these are old subs so all I had to go by were the thiele specs which were quite limited it seems. but any who this box seems to get down even being under powered. I get a lot of bass out of it... and I kinda like the tightness. oh for the fourth order I'd have the port facing forward and I actually keep the back seat down because it sounds better that way but yeah... the ported is a better possibility for the next one. mostly because the response will be better for my wide range of music likes... punk to blues from metallica to e 40 . which I why I went sealed in the first place <img src=http://i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w610/beastly666bassboy/IMG_9611192581855_zps9b9b76be.jpg border=0 alt= height="75" width="800"> Growing old is necessary... growing up is an option! I agree 100 percent. I think the major reason I like this box is because I actually bought these subs in a manufactured bandpass box. the combo of box and subs liked 50hz range and it sounded crappy. and I'll be deleting it very quickly the app I mean <img src=http://i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w610/beastly666bassboy/IMG_9611192581855_zps9b9b76be.jpg border=0 alt= height="75" width="800"> Growing old is necessary... growing up is an option! CleanSierra Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 You may be getting away with the box being so big because of the underpowering of the subs. I don't think you're getting the whole picture of what the subs can REALLY do though, as far as output. A ported box, properly designed and built, would change your idea of how good the current box sounds. I'd feed them around 1-1.25 cubes a piece( net airspace of around 2-2.5 cubes) and tune to around 32-36 Hz. Youd likely be surprised at the outcome. And if you're worried about the whole "sealed is punchier than ported", put that false info behind you. Ported can give you the same punchy effect as sealed, and a good range of response, while having more output doing so. A sealed box typically has a super flat response across a wider range, if it's the right sealed box( not yours). I highly suggest trying a ported box though, and seeing what YOU think. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
