Cadence S1W12 getting really hot with low power

Sorry for my horrific Swype autocorrections, they were bad. Port=pet, sweeted=set, our=or.

My bet is that what you're smelling is nothing wrong. It could be excess glue burning off, and as Snow mentioned, Heat is what most of your energy is converted into with a subwoofer. If the dustcap was too hot to touch, then you may have a problem.

Lol it's fine. Yea I did set the gains manually. It's pretty much set up so that the sub starts distorting around 46 or so on my home receiver, and my regular speakers are turned real low so breaking in the sub isn't as obnoxious. It's really easy to notice when it goes from 45 to 46, because on 45 it's fine and clean, and on 46 it's clearly distorting. But still, that's not the amp according to the amp. The sub should still be able to take another 100 watts easily. With the amount of cooling the Cadence has? A huge pole vent, an orange mesh that provides direct access to the coil. I don't think it's from sending too much power to the woofer, I think it's because it's so new that the voice coil isn't perfectly conformed to the magnet innards, so as it moves the coil is slightly rubbing against the magnet, causing heat and distortion around 100 watts less than what the sub is supposed to take. And if you thought I meant that the box's port was getting hot, I didn't mean that, because then we'd have a really big problem!
