Speakers making a popping sound driving me insane

Well today I noticed a very annoying popping sound in my door speakers. Its driving me insane. And its coming from both sides and its coming from the tweets and the mids. Ive tried 2 different amps and it still does this. I checked the wires and rcas and they where fine. I ran the mids by themselves and they made a popping sound and ran the tweets by themselves and the made a popping sound too. Ive had these playing for 3 weeks and haven't had a problem til today. any ideas what it could be?

have you tryed a noise filter on the head unit , try shielded RCAs

Temporarily replace the HU with a portable audio player (iPod) and run it through all your existing signal wiring.

If that fixes it then you have a HU and/or grounding issue.

its the headunit. could it be a grounding issue on the headunit

Maybe...although I'd think grounding issues would cause more of an alternate whine type of sound.

Look for loose connections through the signal path. Wiggle the RCAs along with the center conductors and whatnot.

Might just be a bad HU internally...

well I have had the headunit for 3 years and I bought it used
