Cnutt420's 2 18 wall build(w/pics)

Recommended Posts

What's up guys

Well, I've had this wall for a few months now so I figured it"s about time I get a build log going. So, here it is:

First of all I gotta give props to my friend Mitchell (mrd6) for hooking me up with his box from his old setup. He didn't have any pics of the box being built but here is a link to his build for some reference http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/140324-dc-rodeo-big-ass-sixth-order-rebuild-starts-page-5-update-pics-617/... Our vehicles were pretty close measurement wise in the cargo area, so with a little persuasion the box slid right in.

Equipment list:

2 RE Audio sx 18's (Fi recones)

1 American Bass VFL500.1

Kenwood Kdc-x396 HU

Orion 250 Hcca (Old School)

Kicker Ks60 components

Stock 140amp gm alt

Knu Kolossus,Shok wire and welding cable

3 Group 31's in back

and 1 Group 75 up front

B pillar wall

All installed in my 95 4runner

When I picked up the box it was raining outside and the box was under a tarp full of spiders so I was in a rush and didnt get any pics of it until i started the installation. But here are the ones I've got...

To start, I had to build a frame to clear the wheel well where the gas fill hose is

IMAG0191.jpg

IMAG0192.jpg

The frame is bolted through the floor in the back and has brackets in the front that bolt directly to the seat bolt. It also bolts to the wheel wells to the factory mounted cargo brackets. I had to trim the 4x4s in the back so the box could be slid in. I also put a 2x4 across the missing spot you see by the wheel well

Box is held by L brackets in the back and straight brackets on sides

Could'nt wait so I had to load the subs

IMAG0234.jpg

IMAG0235.jpg

Made cardboard templates for trim panels

IMAG0372.jpg

and made trim panels out of 1/2 inch plywood

IMAG0241.jpg

IMAG0242.jpg

Fit like a glove so I sanded and painted em up

IMAG0250.jpg

Also built piece to cover bottom of frame out of 3/4 mdf and bolted to other seat bolts

IMAG0251.jpg

It's not a phone book, but my port eats magazines ;)

Had to make some mdf rings and cut holes in my doors for the components

IMAG0101.jpg

Painted and installed

IMAG0374.jpg

Put some "custom" stickers on the subs and plasti dipped my windows

IMAG0260.jpg

IMAG0262.jpg

Stuck some foam weather stripping on that bottom piece and around the trim panels so its all sealed up and called it good for my first competition with this setup.

Lowdown in Chehalis,Wa. 2013

153.1 at 42hz in Idbl

151.6 with a 147.9 average in bass boxing

Ended up with 4 first places and an east vs west trophy

IMAG0263.jpg

IMAG0259.jpg

Also went to Aspen Sounds Competition and to Surf City Soundoff in Lincoln City Oregon and got my best score to date... 153.4 Sealed on the dash :wacky:

Got finals in a few days here and got a few ideas to try to get more dbz, but its not too shabby for a budget build and only on 5k.

Had to build an external for bass boxing

IMAG0289.jpg

How it looks as of now

Heres a couple vids to show you how much air its moving. Only had my phone to record it so the quality sucks, but just to give you an idea

Thats all for now until after finals. Hopefully I can get some more pics and video and maybe even a higher score B)

Heres one of the brackets that are on the back side of the box. They have threaded inserts on the box and are screwed down to the frame

IMAG0378.jpg

Heres one of the side ones that are just screwed in

IMAG0379.jpg

There are also two on the front that have threaded inserts on the box and screwed to the frame. I don't have pics of these because they are under the beauty panel. I will get pics the next time I take that off
