Power wire and speaker wire - help?

Do you mean that your AQ 1200 has 4awg inputs for power wire?

I think you may be having some confusion.

But yes, wire is wire (To an extent)

When wire is classified as "Speaker Wire" It usually has 2 conductors.

"Power Wire" Is one conductor.

Also, wire gauge is chose based on the voltage and current that needs to pass through.

DC Voltage would need larger gauge wire due to the lower voltage and higher current. This is why Power wire into amplifiers is so large.

AC Voltage is usually lower current with higher voltage, and inherently AC can travel further on thinner wire. Speaker outputs are AC Voltage.

For a 1200W amp, you can actually use 12awg wire on the speaker outputs for up to 10ft of wire length. Anything over that is just gravy and reduces resistance which is good. But you get to a point where it is overkill and a waste of money and effort to make it fit.

I would say that 10awg speaker wire on a 1200W amp is plenty.

thank you too for the serious answer my friend. It's good to have people who are actually here to educate, not just dog on some kid who knows nothing hah!

0 gauge speaker wire? Are you serious? This has to be a joke, right?

Hey man thanks for being a smartass, I really appreciate it. I said this might be a dumb question.. and would ya look at that.. someone had to post about how dumb it was. Seriously thanks a lot dude you helped a ton! Cant you fucking tell I don't know much about this stuff? I bet you were the smartest guy out there when you started with car audio huh..

WHooooaaaaa bro, my bad, I didn't mean to offend. But check this out, once you see how big 0 gauge wire is, you will laugh about it too. You are right, and I stand corrected. I do not know it all, and have asked plenty of questions that some people would consider basic knowledge. ANyway, 12 g speaker wire will be plenty big enough for most any speaker configuration you are gonna need. Anything bigger is gonna be used for power and ground purposes.

Did you get that scar tissue when you got your vagina installed?

You're probably right :P Well, at least you can own up to it lol, thank you. Just seems like I always get that 1 person that posts something that doesn't help at all and I just think to myself "why even post?". Don't worry about it though dude, just set me off a little. I'll probably go with the 12 ga seeing as I'm hearing it would hold up good for my application. :D
