RossGo
man, you aren't joking around when it comes to bracing a box lol looks sweet! when you gonna glass in the fender wells? Several factors had me go this route for bracing. I didn't want the bracing to be the weak point that would make me have to rebuild the box. Since it is 52" wide, I could only get two cuts per whole sheet of MDF, so it got expensive quick. I wanted the bracing to be round, and didn't think wood would be suffient for the calling of this specific box. Solid rod allowed me to capture extreme strength, but a low profile (and thus minimal "stolen"internal volume) Materials cost $42 as well (with extra remaining). Since I can weld,, it made it a no brainer. As for the fiberglass, I am away from my shop for about a month. I live 100 miles away I am in pharmacy school, so my focus will be on finals. I'll be sure to post updates as soon as I have them Yes I have a lot of stereo weight. lightfoot
Looking good. You should have taped up the fender wells before you built the enclosure around them. that way the fiberglass could actually adhear to the mdf and not just the tape. RossGo
Didn't think about that. There is my incentive to do the whole floor and walls Yes I have a lot of stereo weight. RossGo
Well I kinda put this off for a while. After exams last semester, all my time went into finishing this up and working. Pretty much every day this year has been an average of 10 degrees or less, so it's been slow. I "finished" the build the first week of January, just in time for CES. Pulled it into the shop with exactly 210k miles, so that's two memorable moments in one haha. I have some pictures from Vegas and CES as well if you would like, but for now I'll keep it at my 4Runner Two cool things from CES was talking to Ken Block for a while, and sitting in Scott Buwalda's car after talking to him for a bit. Anyway, took the advice of you guys and glassed the whole box. There is at least one layer on all of the walls, and at least two layers at all the corner joints (over caulk). And something like six layers over the wheel wells. Sanded it 6 passes with 60 grit, then 4 with 120 and 2 with 200. Smooooooooth Then I mounted up the beauty board, drilled some holes for my terminals, and cleaned it all out Yes I have a lot of stereo weight. RossGo
The other side Now for power For the 400.4 (temporary) "Final" setup. The RF amp is crooked, but this was a temp thing just so that I could finish by CES, and I will be going to a larger amp to try and keep up with the low end power. I will make welded steel supports after SBN most likely, with an amp for fronts and rears and a 360.3 in the center. It looks like a crazy mess, but actually most cuts are equal length cuts. I am usually very neat wit my wiring, as I hope you can see from other sections of the build, but I have special wants for this part. I drive around 100 miles every time I drive the vehicle, and am at just shy of full tilt for the entire time. Every power run is fused, and there are two runs between every battery, which guarantees I will always have proper amperage flow, even if one fuse blows. Very much overkill, but it is what I felt was proper for this vehicle. Yes I have a lot of stereo weight.
