Loud & Low 8th Gen Civic - UBL #3 - The Final Chapter - Up to date

Recommended Posts

I think when I left off with the port last, I had figured out that I needed to router out some grooves so the weather stripping would fit correctly. So I was trying to figure out how I was going to do this, thinking about making some strips or something as a fence, etc. Then it dawned on me that I had this nifty little too that came with the router. It's a guide that I can adjust to the depth of what I need to cut.

After getting the routering done, I cut the stripping.

Then i set it on there, and started the screws. Before.

After. Much better. Before there was an 1/8" gap fully tightened. Now it's closed.

Started sanding the baffle.

Once I got that done, I got things set up to paint. Hi Murphy dog!!

Primed the sub baffle, and the rear baffle frame

774211_638832246176256_1716070922_o.jpg

and then put the screws in the port to paint them black.

1506322_638832269509587_1597626549_o.jpg

and then did the whole thing once again since I was at it.

1559357_638832282842919_1904636117_o.jpg

Next I had to fill these holes after sanding from the first coat.

i sanded a lot on the port wall so that the sharp edges could go away.

1622566_638832506176230_1627903347_o.jpg

Then it was time to prime all this too.

Then I got an idea for the rear baffle frame. This is the before, all primed.

Then I did a little orange. I'll let you guys sit and think about this one for a bit.

What is this? A DC Audio sticker huh? What ever will I do with this? Hmmmmmm

1518944_638832732842874_1016874573_o.jpg

Ahhhh well that's cool, but a little simple.

1519229_638832749509539_427790031_o.jpg

Let's step it up to the next level!!

1500999_638832782842869_1295143281_o.jpg

We'll let that dry for a while before we do the next step on it.

1780155_638832809509533_1563836750_o.jpg

So to get the enclosure pieces finished up, I needed to make a Flocking booth. This was really not quite big enough but I made it work. Why do I need this? You'll see!

and it's Flocking done!! WOOT!

See all the fibers on the bottom of the booth? That's why a booth is needed. at the end of this there will be a ton of those fibers. I can gather them all up in the plastic and recover them for another project. So I don't just waste it all.

There it is!! How do you like that? Me? I LOVE IT!! Looks way better in person!!

1518891_638833232842824_1745113114_o.jpg

So that's it for the enclosure for this time. What's left? Well honestly, just letting this all dry, and putting it together. Then mounting the subs, and wiring them up. So this is just about done folks! WOOT!

Let's move on to the Rear Seat Amp Rack.

For this project I bought a new seat. The seat I have in the car now is a split 60/40 and it just wasn't going to work for this. So for $100 I got the full seat back, and the seat bottom.

1599437_638946806164800_508820506_o.jpg

This is the only mark on it. I may be able to get that off.

Let's get started. Need to get this off and reveal the metal back of it.

1524463_638946866164794_1198145974_o.jpg

1502797_638946872831460_311952397_o.jpg

Next I need to make a template of the opening to make sure that nothing was going to hit.

1502686_638946912831456_151365946_o.jpg

1655801_638946929498121_1176581745_o.jpg

1534935_638946939498120_432565850_o.jpg

1654591_638946962831451_1547490630_o.jpg

1523585_638947002831447_1536439047_o.jpg

Next i had to cut some foam from the bottom there to make my lines and get this thing laid out.

1598530_638947022831445_576007583_o.jpg

The bottom there is a sharpie line. That represents the trunk bottom. Well not the bottom but there are two nubs that are there that I have to watch out for.

Using the template, up to the line, I marked the area in which I was going to need to stay within.

1008605_638947052831442_1265870673_o.jpg

1559319_638947099498104_1309688318_o.jpg

Now that I have it all laid out, it's time to use my favorite tool and get this business under way!

1614075_638947116164769_1612493494_o.jpg

Next I need to pull some foam.

1239172_638947132831434_2146269405_o.jpg

1781123_638947159498098_946739671_o.jpg

So I had said before that I didn't want to take out all the foam, but I didn't have much of a choice. So I'll have to address the fabric and re upholstery later.

1523033_638947179498096_1421058679_o.jpg

Now let's make the box. 1/2" birch ftmfw!!

1655763_638947192831428_1260021753_o.jpg

Got the bottom piece and the walls cut.

1047893_638947209498093_629745088_o.jpg

All put together. Let's test fit.

1502615_638947232831424_710660045_o.jpg

So putting it in the seat itself, there is some more foam trimming to do, as well as it's going to be in too deep. All the edges on the other side will need to be rounded over and softened. I'm also goign to have to reinforce the metal backing in some way. It's not strong at all. So I'm thinking that in order to get this to stay put, I may do some threaded inserts, and some angle aluminum and make some brackets. We'll have to wait and see. I'm out of time tonight.

1596816_638947252831422_132580826_o.jpg

Here'st he final layout of the amp and the processor.

1602041_638947269498087_1368146170_o.jpg

This is just the start. Lots to do on this. The one thing I'd like to do, in the details department, is rotate the "R" on the 3sixty so it reads up and down like the "c1100.4". Maybe I'm being nit picky, but it's gonna bother me I think. We'll see, maybe not.

So that was my weekends progress. I think I'm on course to be close to playing by next weekend. We'll see. Still so much work to do. But things are being crossed off the list left and right.

More to come soon.

So let me start with the 360 from last night. It's a little out of order but I want to address this separately. I'm very happy with how this came out.

The first idea was to cover the body with the black carbon fiber. Then I was going to cover the logo with the orange carbon fiber.

1073095_640221282704019_452737939_o.jpg

My original plan was to try and just rotate the R. So for kicks and grins I think I'll give that a shot.

1486002_640221286037352_803181196_o.jpg

Little love with the heat gun, and touched it with my finger and it moved quite easily.

1622351_640221339370680_712258273_o.jpg

Then a little finesse with the knife, not the sharp side.

1518474_640221362704011_775727664_o.jpg

And done!

1492572_640221386037342_1639832085_o.jpg

Just some two sided tape.

1557404_640221412704006_2077784013_o.jpg

Got the body covered up and it looks real good I think. I'm very happy with it.

1523441_640221459370668_169366336_o.jpg

And then after trying the orange carbon fiber vinyl about 4 times, and it not working, I decided to hell with it and just painted it orange.

1658529_640221486037332_550924297_o.jpg

I think it goes very well. I'm still trying to get more labels made up like the amp that says 3sixty.3 in the same font, and about a half inch tall. I think it will really set it off. The other thing I want to do, is get the LED changed out on it. It's a blue led for on, and then white for other stuff (set up I think) and then red for other issues. But I believe it's mainly blue. Well I'd like to change that blue to orange. Then we'd really be in business! So that's it for this for now. I'll update it when I get more added.
