scooter99
Time for the sub cables. SHCA 8ga. Shorty runs. 8 ga SHCA copper terminals. Solder them all on. Then added a little love. SHCA Sub + and - shrink. Then the remote wire will finish things off. Little orange flex to dress it up. Remote wire is ready. All the cables are now ready for the amps. scooter99
Passenger side amp out and ready to get some cabling. This is how easy the removable floor makes accessing the amps. This was very easy to remove. All cables in. It's a mess now but it'll get cleaned up for sure. Got the runs to the battery and fuse holder. Then did the same for the driver side. and dressed them up. Overall view. And this is what it looks like on the wall. So that's how my Saturday went. I'm going to end there for now. I'm exhausted, and I have to get up at 3:45am. I'll get the rest of it up soon. I'll have more to do tomorrow, and tomorrow night. So hopefully I can get pics up soon. It's crunch time folks!! Only a few days left and there's just sooooo much left to do. Going to be some late nights, and hard days. I'm hoping that I have this up and running by Thursday night, cause I'm not going to be able to work on it Friday, and well, Saturday is the day. Stay tuned, there's more coming!! scooter99
There's a lot of pics to post, and I didn't keep track of days, only filed them per project, so they may be out of order. But at this point, I'm just going to get them posted and move on. I have videos too which I'll post at the end. Had to try and figure out what order I left off of. I'm just going to start with the enclosure and finish it out. Here we go. In order to connect everything as far as the subs and amps, I need to put some rods in the floor boards. Remember the floor is removable so they need to be able to be disconnected. Marking it out. and drilled out the holes to fit 1/4" threaded rod. Like so. This is the way it will work. I just need to cut it down obviously. Like so. This is the way it will work. I just need to cut it down obviously. After cutting it. Now I just need 4 more of these set ups. LIke so. Subs will wire to these. Amps will wire to these. Both disonnectable. Next I got all the screws laid out so that I could get them painted. First I thought I'd paint them black. This way they'd blend in. Then I got the amp cables hooked up to the bottom side. Then the sub cables will go up here. After thinking about it, I decided that the screws should be orange. There isn't much orange in the enclosure, so these will do well. Facebook Page: S99Creations 2006 F250 Lariat Build
scooter99
Then got some foam tape for the seams and edges. This will help seal it up. But also keep the ability to remove it when necessary. Ran 2 down each side, and one on the back seam. There was only room for one. But they all connect and intertwine. Now it's ready for the screws to anchor it down when they dry. Got a little tip from Jamie on this one. The towels worked out well. Even on the flocked floor. Saved a lot of holding and grunting. Took the subs out to get the wires all tidied up. Some techflex, SHCA Sub shrink. Each shrink has a (+) and a (-) to identify which is which easily. Makes for a nice clean install. Little 8ga terminals to solder on. And one sub is done. I had also made a mistake that someone caught on the amp . Well they were in now, so this just kind of goes to show how the removable floor really works well. I was able to get to these and swap them out with very little issue. All fixed. Driver side looking the same way! Time to button her up! Got my orange screws all put in. Really got excited at this point because I felt like the screws were a nice touch. It's all in the details boys and girls! I should've done something about the sub connections too. But at this point I was running out of time. scooter99
Next it was time to get the subs wired up. That fog on the back of the sub is from my fat head and being inside the box doing all this and it being cold out. Funny thing is, the next morning I came out and it had all dripped off the motor and there was a mini puddle under it. Got it dried up quickly of course, but I found it funny. One side down, one to go. Now that, I LOVE!! I'm very happy with it. Came out better than what I'd imagined in my head. I love it when that happens. Time for some more screw painting. I forgot the front set of screws. So we'll get those now and put them on later. These were for the majority of the back frame. I forgot a set of smaller screws for the floor on the back frame. But these I wanted black. Too much orange would've taken away from the subtleness of the orange. Back frame put on. Starting to come together now. and with the rest of the orange screws put in. This really sets it off. I LOVE IT!! Here's a quick pic with the back glass on. I'm very pleased with how the enclosure turned out. scooter99
Next we'll look at the trunk lid. This was exciting for me! WOOT! Now I believe the last time I posted about this lid, I was just barely getting it glassed. So lots of progress on that for sure. After two layers of glass on the mounting board and the panel, and about 4 layers of resin. It's pretty sturdy. I'd like to do some on the back as well. Now it's time to get this bad boy on. Measured out the center point. and held it up there to drill some holes. Had to turn it on just to see it myself. THIS does it absolutely no justice. It looks soo much better in person than it does in a picture. Sorry guys. now it's time to make a harness for this thing. ALL SHCA primary wire. Remote in, remote out, 12+ and Ground. Soldered it all up. Added some heat shrink. Techflex, and then some SHCA heat shrink to finish it off. SHCA RCA cables ready to go. Here's the bare trunk. You can't see them very well, if at all, but I put some threaded inserts in. These will hold the panel on the trunk. The plastic clips were not going to work. There are 4 mounting points on the top and bottom. Then got it all mounted up. Once I get the amps on, and the processor, I'll see what it feels like. I may have to add a couple of mounts on the sides to make it even more sturdy. That'll have to wait until later to find out. The raw wood was driving me nuts so I painted it black. scooter99
Later on after it dried I finished the night with mounting the 360. I have to get some different screws for this too. The amps come in on Monday, so those will go in soon. WOOT the new Crescendo Symphony Series S800/4's. 2 of them, one for the mids, and one for the tweets and rear fills. Fresh out of the package. One of the first things I noticed about this, was all the crossover settings. This thing will go active for sure, if you don't have a processor. The other thing i noticed, was that it doesn't have a 2 channel mode. So I'll have to figure something out for that. Size comparison, another reason I got these, to my Samsung Note 8.0. They're small with a punch! Let's get em loaded up. I like this configuration, don't you? I actually had them straight side to side, but it seemed a bit crammed in there, and just kind of boring. So a little turn and it just seemed to flow. Time to make some cables. Soldered on some SHCA connectors and a little tech flex and heatshrink to flow with the rest of the theme. And they're ready to go in. Facebook Page: S99Creations 2006 F250 Lariat Build
scooter99
All wired up and nice and tidy. I'll say this, that trunk lid is heavier than I thought. Not sure if those actuators are going to be up to the challenge. We'll have to see. Close up of the driver side wiring. Speaker wires and 360 cables were next. All tucked in nice and neat along the trunk lid arm. Wires And finally the RCA's on. She's ready to be turned on and tuned. Relay and barrier strip for the 360 power and the remote out to the amps. Quickly made up a panel for the 360 remote. Facebook Page: S99Creations 2006 F250 Lariat Build
scooter99
After being humbled by the lack of brain power due to the lack of sleep, finally figuring out the issue as to why it wouldn't power up before, it was time to finally turn her on! Turned the key, and bam, Remote on. That was a good feeling!!! At 4:00am on Saturday morning!!! Sub amps powered up 360 powered up 800/4 passenger side powered up 800/4 driver side powered up That was pretty much it on the pics. I buttoned everything up, tried to tune it and failed miserably that night/morning. So I took it to Autorama and Jon hooked it up. There are some things I'm not happy with, the wiring for one. I don't like how unorganized the battery banks look. I'm thinking of a plan to fix that. We'll see if I can make it work or not. I think I've documented well on here, in places, how unhappy I am with the 360, and I do plan on changing that out when money becomes available. For now I'll leave it, but it's proving to be a dangerous piece in the system. If they changed the remote, I'd be happy with it I think. Truly. But I've had too many bad experiences already where a notch is a dramatic difference on moment, then subtle the next. There's too much money and effort in this already to have something get ruined because of that. Ok I'll move on. I'm very unhappy with the doors. I like the design, I like the layout, but I'm a noob when it comes to building them so I ended up taking the door panels off to do the fleece etc, and they warped. Made for a terrible time getting them back on. I had to end up using screws instead of the pins. Which really isn't an issue, as I planed on doing that anyway, but just with inserts, not metal screws. The other thing was, I got to moving too fast and didn't think about speaker depth. I wanted them to be reverse mounted, and by being reverse mounted, they were about 5/8" too deep. So I had to surface mount them to get the panels on. Not a terrible thing, I'll know for the next time. But I think that I'm going to hit up a yard and see about some new panels, and do these over again. I should have better success this time for sure. As I suspected, I can't get the trunk lid to open up with the new actuators. I'm working on a solution, but it's gonna take some time. SO we'll see what happens. I have lots of work left to do for sure. Seal it off, do some real wiring, fix the mess that's back there, do the rear deck trim, make trim panels, and a whole slew of other things to do and re do. So this project is far from over. Thanks to everyone who's supported me through this far. I appreciate it. Things are most likely going to slow way down now. LIttle stuff here and there, but not the updates like there has been. I'm going to attack this one project at a time and get it done. MORE TO COME!!!! scooter99
Oh I'm sorry, did anyone wanna see a video or three??? There are some issues still with the car. I've basically stated it in the video. However I've since talked to Mike Singer and we've decided the first coarse of action is to swap the belt out. Lots of play and probably some slippage there. The other thing about the belt is the new route on it takes about half the wrap away. It's a long shot, but I'm going back to the old routing on it, shorter belt, and we'll see if that helps at all. Video number one! Video number 2 - I talk alot, so you guys probably already know, but if you want to skip all that, the music starts at 4:30. The first part of the video I do a sort of walk around and explain everything. Video number 3 - Again, talking, so music starts at about 3:20 Not all my videos will have that much talking. I only did this time because there's so much going on in the last few days, I know I've not taken all the pics I should've and so I'm trying to explain what's going on. Ok that's it, I'm done. I'm headed out to the auto parts store for belts and exhaust hangers, and more. Thanks for tuning in folks!!
