Unkown107 Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 need a box for 2 Obsidian 18 v2 ported box gonna be in a 1993 astro van lot of room can be as long as 4 ft wide (wheel wells) 3 ft tall 4 foot long (only if needed) 1000 rms (500 each) i was thinking tuned to 29-35 idk if this makes a diffrence but when its all done there will be 4 18s
CleanSierra Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 So you want a box for 2 now and then we'll upgrade later to 4? Are you wanting something now that would be the same width and height as a box down the road for the 4 subs? Port size week change(double basically) for the 4 18s design, but you have plenty of room for 2 or 4. What kind of height are you comfortably wanting as of now? 20-24" maybe? Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
Unkown107 Posted December 21, 2013 Author Report Posted December 21, 2013 yeah just the 2 to start & as long as i can see out my back window it can be as high as 3-3 1/2 ft what direction you think i should fire my port an also what do you think about putting in 2 boxes
CleanSierra Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 I don't like the idea of two boxes, I think that's no good. I'd do I've big box with a shared chamber. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
Unkown107 Posted December 21, 2013 Author Report Posted December 21, 2013 ok then i guess just the box for the 2 now an when i get the other 2 ill make a new box for all 4
Unkown107 Posted December 21, 2013 Author Report Posted December 21, 2013 where would be a good place to ask for box dimensions
CleanSierra Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 Here: Box is tuned at ~33 Hz and 11 cubes. Please excuse the lack of double baffle in the actual sketch. I forgot it but the calculations are correct and baffle is accounted for. Port is 5.75" and 28" wide. The cuts for those would be 21.75X6.5" for the vertical walls of the port and the long piece that makes the top of the port is 21.75X28". Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
Unkown107 Posted December 22, 2013 Author Report Posted December 22, 2013 should i put any braceing in
CleanSierra Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 Its got Double baffle so that will help. You can add all-thread or wooden dowels if you'd like. I can't remember(not in front of my PC) if I added bracing in my calculations. I usually do reserve a little airspace for bracing in my calculations, though it won't change tuning or displacement hardly at all. If you want to do a vertical brace, it will go through the port with either threaded rod or dowels. It's up to you as far as bracing and what you're comfortable with. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
