ChrispyShimp
Okay so I got a lil update going I'm installing the SHCA 2/0 and doing it in a way so I can easily transfer to a new amp with 0ga inputs. Also I plan on having the best ground ever. Still not sure if I have enough for a posi and neg run to the amp. So I found an aluminum slab in my garage (Thank the powers that be!) so I decided to make it into a nice battery terminal plate. And because it's soft aluminum I start right away with the cold chisel cutting. Didn't work out. I used the chisel to cut the top down, saved me a ton of hand filing. Then I take it out and realize it's completely un-even, so off the the scrap bin. I swear this camera is a total POS it never takes a clear picture anymore! So I wind up cutting it with the hacksaw, that took forever! I figured aluminum would cut real easy but each cut took more then 10 minutes. Hey it's tough aluminum I guess. Did a bit of filing to make them both mostly even, and began drilling. Patience. And now my work begins to look good! Does anyone know the copper percentage of this wire? CCA SHCA 2/0? ChrispyShimp
Well the surround separated from the cone on one of the subs. Local shop told me to use glue. What do you guys think? ChrispyShimp
I have the truck in pieces right now so update soon! I haven't taken any pix yet but it's just pulling the bench and wiring. Nothing interesting yet. Knowledge is the greatest tool in any garage. It's also the most priceless, and most easily shared. ChrispyShimp
Thrashed allllllll day to get the wire in. About 9:00 am Tear it all out! The Demons new home Tha Altanatah! DIY lugs almost as good as the SHCA, just a tad thinner (with two pipes at that!) I didn't want to mess with soldering sooooo much and that's stuff isn't cheap either so I went with mega crimping. I use a socket that barely fits in the lug end and it flares out to a larger diameter and pound it with a hammer to flare the lug, makes it much easier to fit all the wire in. I also use a small screw driver to squeeze in the extra strands that get out. I then crush it a bit so it holds a little while I get it in the real crusher. Glad I have these perfectly shaped chunks of metal, they make for a good crimper IMO. And squeeze!!!! I used a gummy hammer to bash the lever on the vice until I felt it was crimped enough. crimped Run from the alt to the bat. Gotta go to next post too many pics. This happens all the time, why the pic limit? Knowledge is the greatest tool in any garage. It's also the most priceless, and most easily shared. ChrispyShimp
Fuck you internet just deleted 15 mins of posting hit the back button somehow just as I finish the post and about to hit 'post'. FML. It got late and I got lost in the work, forgot to take pix sorry. Made a run from the neg on the bat to the alt frame. removed the belt too. Sick of the tools bouncing off the table when I pounded so onto the floor it goes. Got it all wired up! Got everything but the air box back in. no voltage drop from the alt to the amp!! So now that the box is out I can safely say I want to keep my leg room. I will be building a new box, one that's roughly half the volume. I'm thinking an SA-8 in a 4th @ 1 ohm. I will not but spending more than 200 on a sub. I will trade my box/subs for something smaller should anyone who reads this have something for me. Knowledge is the greatest tool in any garage. ChrispyShimp
Uggghhhhhh! stupid deleted post shit WTF I realized I had nothing that would hold the fuse and lugs. Yup. Cut, drill, counter sink... Looks good to me. Counter sunk mounting bolts Final thing. POS camera. The coil is leftover, the one with the lug is my positive run, surprisingly short. Pasta Prime
Damn dude!!! This has got to be the best build I have read. You go into so much detail and show the right amount of pictures. I love it! The work you have done with, compared to may others, very little is fucking amazing! I love it! I have been stuck for a long time not doing anything to my ride because I'm broke and dont have all the stuff I want but you really gave me motivation to get out and get some shit done. Thank you, and carry on!! New build coming........ Thank you, and carry on!! Ha! Awesome comment, thank you so much! I still consider this a budget build I traded an install for the leftover 2/0, I bought the JL amp for 140$, subs for 250$, made the box for around 100$ (vinyl included) and the Demon I got for free (Got really lucky on that one) the HU was 140$ five years ago, JL TR 6x9s were 250$, plus another 100$ in odd bits and parts. But the products from SHCA are very, very hard to beat, I used two copper pipes to make that lug and it STILL isn't as thick as the SHCA lug. Crazy good product Jon Rabe! SHCA 2/0 FTW! Pasta Prime
The home made lugs are awesome! My sub amp was a freebie too. Cant beat free power. I have two rolls of 1\0 SHCA I still have to run. Love that stuff. New build coming........ I have two rolls of 1\0 SHCA I still have to run. Love that stuff. Two rolls? I've used less than 25' on this truck, so 100' is gonna wear you out man! Git 'er done! You should have no problems making custom lugs, it's much less of a hassle for 1/0. And make a build log! So to all the great folks who may read this, I have a problem. The surround has separated from the cone on one of the subs, the glue got too old and brittle and it's let go of roughly half of the cone. (pixs later if you need) I need to know a good glue to use for this (or epoxy) and how should I prep the area to be glued? Also, if one half has come undone, should I glue that one half and then rip up the other side and glue it down so it doesn't come apart later? Many thanks in advance.
