Hello,

I got 2 SWR12D2's, Is it safe to set it up at .5ohms ? I got stock electrical and 4GA cables. The alternator is stock also (BMW e46).

Any thoughts ?

Do I need to upgrade the my stock battery to a yellow top ?

optimas are garbage batteries. dont bother. unless you have an unlimited warranty and like to switch them out often when the cells randomly die out. but then you'd likely be stranded on the road because a cell decided to die when the car is turned off.

.5 ohm dont bother. you need d4 coils. or run two 1000w amps and run one woofer to each. or bridge the amps so you can run them at 2 ohms. if you dont know what bridging an amplifier is, then dont bother messing with it.

1 ohm? need two 1000w amps. like two soundqubed 1200's. or if you dont want to power them fully, two soundqubed 750's.

edit: from what i can find, the stock alt is 120 amps. so you have like 50-60 amps of free power to work with for audio...thats not much. each soundqubed 750 will pull like 70 amps a piece.

so you WILL have voltage drop. only thing nobody knows is, how much.

Thanks alot kranny, Im running it at 2 ohms, I had two basic amps bridged before but was taking way too much place in my trunk :S It plays loud enough for me, the only issue I got is that my seats dont fold them and theres no arm rest. So I dont have much pressure inside my cabin :( I should have bought the 4 ohm ones but I got the 2ohms in rebate for mad cheap !

Depends on your amp and what it will produce at the certain impedance. It may not be stable that low. Run it and see what your voltage drop is. Optima is not a bad battery.

optima is a terrible battery company ever since they switched the manufacturing from USA to mexico.

you have no idea how much you'll stress equipment on a STOCK electrical, running an amp at half its lowest rated impedance.

I will leave it as it is, its probably not even doing rated since im running stock.

I have a Hifonics Brutus BRZ2400.1D D-Class Mono Block wired to 0.5 ohms with two T3 Audio T.2000 15" subs running daily for a month so far.

Extra battery and upgraded the big three...also 0 gauge from front to back battery and to amp and ground!
