  • 1 month later...

I've been out of car audio for a long time. I've missed it and I'm ready to dive back in. T-Line looks like something I want to do. In my avatar you'll see 2-15" in IB enjoying 850 watts RMS in my HT setup. Awesome clean bass. After reading almost every page here, I'm looking at two different approaches.

4 - 6 1/2" Tang Bands. I think shaking a car with 6 1/2s would be funny as hell. Plus using 4 drivers gives me 9db increase over the single driver.

The other is a TC Sounds 10", but the software program doesn't seem to like it as much. Strange, but maybe someone here can give me input.

Here are the specs for the 6 1/2.

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=264-919

Sensitivty is 83 db. 4 would be 92 db.

Fs = 35hz

QMS = 2.64

QTS = 0.40

VAS = 0.42 cu ft

BL = 8.47

Xmas - 11.5

Sd = 140 cm2

Here is what the software came up with when I tuned it to 40 Hz:

http://dbdynamixaudio.com/dual-fold-on-axis-transmission-line-enclosure-calculator/

Enclosure Specifications:

1/4 WaveTuning Point: 39.96 hz

Line Volume: 5.55 cubic feet

Recommended Line Volume: 5.53 cubic feet

Cross Sectional Area of Line: 124 sq. inches

Minimum X-Sectional Area: 100 sq. inches

Line Depth (inches): 8

Maximum Dimensions:

External Height (inches): 17

External Width (inches): 29

External Depth (inches): 27

using 3"4 mdf

I was hoping someone could plug a known value into the software to see how acurate it is.

Here is the 10" http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=293-656

I don't know how critical the 'Line Volume' needs to be at 'Recommended Line Volume' since it doesn't seem to change the tuning value. When I input the 10" values, I can't get those numbers to get close when tuning to 32 hz....or anywhere near.

Thanks guys!

If it's too loud, you're too old. At least that's what I tell my kids when they tell me to turn it down.

I vote the tang bands... imo...I have been wanting to do multiple samll woofer in a line...like 6-8 8" or 6" drivers...so seeing someone do 4 would be cool.

Hey guys, new to the audio game and have always been interested in
moving towards working on friend's cars and beastin the streets :BART:

Finally made the first step and got my first audio setup. After going to shop
that tried to get me to pay for their custom built boxes which hours
later I find out that they were selling me aT-line build. In the back of
my mind I said thanks but I would like to learn myself as easy as it is
for people to just pay few hundred for someone else for installations
I'd rather learn from the experience.

The thread starter did a
great job explaining everything HOWEVER I have some questions that seem
to be easy for you well established audio installer but i'm a total noob
and couldn't completely keep up.

I have two 12" Kicker
Solo-Baric S12D that sound great, I just realize now that I don't
necessarily need two if I do this T-line setup.

FEATURES

Class AB

  • Audiophile grade components
  • High efficiency mosfet design
  • On-board variable precision 18dB x-over
  • On-board variable bass boost @45Hz 0-18dB
  • Hypsink technology (Heat management system)
  • Subsonic filter: 20Hz - 50Hz

My basic questions would be how do I go about choosing the correct or best
Hz to use into the calculation of the length of the box and what
exactly am I to do manually to get this to be true in my car. I assume I
would be changing the settings on the amp as well as the head unit to
match the chosen Hz?

The cone area I will have to measure out
tomorrow, I'll have to take them out of the sealed box they are
currently in to do it. I tried searching online for someone posting
their specs but they are an oldschool sub so a bit harder to find. On
the ratio to run the subs I believe it would be best to run it off the
amp since it has the most power but I really don't know anything as far
as what I'm even reading lol

Links to understand better and
catching up to audio info would be cool, I'm basically ready to feast on
some audio knowledge and be able to understand what all of these terms
mean and do for the sounds. Any help is HIGHLY appreciated, I just got
done doing a double for work so excuse anything that sounded beyond my
usual mild humour. Fn tired... I'll get up and try to do some more
researching tomorrow after a good rest but could use the personal help
to walk me through understanding what I am to find and correctly
choosing the box for my Honda Accord '02 which has a decent trunk size, I
would like to have room for things to fit in there still so size is of
importance but not huge - just something that will get the biggest bang
per size. Thanks for any replies in advance. :popcorn:

Mine has somewhat of a chamber if you want to call it that...I had to to get the mounting depth correct...its back a few pages ll edit them into this reply. My old one I just ran sub inverted and line went sideways to the face of the sub...more traditional style that you see.
