Help with box design for 2 12" alpine type r's

actually that isn't bad, you will lose some output but it will work. and the type r is a punchy sub to begin with. my old atrend kandy Color was just like that box. 1.8 net each tuned to 37hz it sounded great on.anything rap-dubstep hip hop kinda stuff (minus no low end... at all) and if you listen to rock, metal, jazz, reggae... well you won't like that high of a tune.

lets put it this way, you have a fast car. and from 60mph to 80 is the fastest. and know you wanna make your car faster. would you make the car even faster from 60-80 or would you try to bump up the speed from 20-40 to have a smoother quicker ride?

the r is a spl sub, has no issue being.punchy all by itself!

So basically what you're saying is that for a higher tuned, punchy box, it's pretty good, but I'm losing the low end extension (like in a bigger box with lower tuning)

EDIT:

After looking at the SPL/Transfer function of 35hz vs 33hz tuning, I think 33hz will be my final spec. A bit more low end extension and flattens the hump around 50hz - the cabin gain in my jeep around 50hz is already ridiculous without a peak due to the box tuning.

yea exactly! the r is already a punchy sub. it.needs no extra help being punchy! dropping your tune will give you much better sound quality, much much better! you're not gonna lose any punch,.only gain low end and sq. it's truly a win win! that box is a decent Size.

what kinda power are you putting to them?

if your putting less then 1k to each i would try to make the box a tit big bigger. if your putting exactly rated to them a Lil bigger that Size is ok. if your putting more then rated that box is great! they Can take more then rated! don't let anyone tell you different!.right now i have a ct 1400.1 to each one at .5ohm and they love it!

your box looks good Man, just drop that tune below 35hz and put at least a clean 2k to them and your gonna love it!

Only 700W each. Not the best, but it's what I got haha. I'd love a bigger amp, but it's at the point where any bigger amp means new alternator and then I'd need a new 4-chan amp and speakers to match the bass output, etc lol. The cruel, expensive world of car audio

EDIT: Finished the box and carpeted it yesterday. Sounds great and the box is noticeably better (both sq and spl). Not sure if it's the sub up, port back or what, but I like it. Also, the 50 hz peak I was talking about - measured the low end bands on my EQ (20hz, 31.5hz, 50hz, 80hz, 125hz). 20hz was obviously cut through subsonic, 31.5 hz & 80 hz were relatively level, but 50 hz had a 12db increase over the other two. Crazy. EQ'd it down and sounds much better haha.
