Echo51 Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 What is the proper way to seal up a door for max mid-bass? Speakers are Gladen M130 5.25" and when you crank the bass boost they defo can move some air, it just seems like the door eats most of it? I'd say it's the area around 120-200 hz that's completely lacking, which really ruins anything Rock and similar. Sub is an RS 08 being crossed at 100hz, crossovers for doors are 80hz, both 12db slopes. Pioneer X560BT deck with 4x50w RMS amp to power them. I have already applied STP Silver to the other door layer, and covered all holes in the inner door metal. The open hole near the front has also been sealed off. Any tips on what i can do to get more midbass out of it?
truthsayer Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 Without modifying the door panel, by making a custom door panel. The only option i can think of is speaker baffles. Example http://www.amazon.com/DEI-050320-Round-Speaker-Baffle/dp/B0039Z3SPW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1399581116&sr=8-1&keywords=5.25+speaker+baffle truthsayer
Echo51 Posted May 8, 2014 Author Report Posted May 8, 2014 Shop i bought the speakers from says to cut out the bottom of those so the speaker is able to move the air it needs, which makes sence since they're not designed for a sealed, but an infinite baffle? I'll try stuffing a sheet of the STP damper matt under the speaker mounting to seat it up next time i have the doorcards off!
Soccerballzs Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 Try to avoid coiling wire in door above crossover. Have you sound dampened the interior of door? Start off with a high quality dampening material. No peel and stick from Lowes. You will gain better sound with a properly dampened door. http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/garage/vehicle/2438-jeep-commander/I Pioneer P99RSAmpere 38002-Ampere 125/44-6.5 inch Hertz HSK XL Mids4-8 inch JL Audio ZR Midwoofer 2-5.25 Satori Mids2-Morel Tweeters, 2 Hertz Milles 3 inch on A pillars2-Hertz Silk tweeters DC Audio Level 5/12 Skyhigh Wire Mechman 320 XS Power D3100MO Funniest Thread of the Year 2013: http://www.stevemead...dy-being-a-pos/
truthsayer Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 If your going to cut out the bottom of the baffle, then their is no reason to use them. I would not cut out the bottom of the baffle. If you do not like the sound with the baffle, just remove it. However i think you will like the sound better with the baffle. it will help to reflect the sound into the car, instead of losing the sound going into the door.l truthsayer

Both outer and inner skin of the door has been dampend, but it doesn't seem to have helped. I will clean up the wiring ^^ @truthsayer, i'll try sealing them in the MDF ring, and look into getting those foam baffles if it shows any promise.
