afrakes Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 So I'm designing a box to house a single 18" FI sp4. It will be going into the trunk of an 09 BMW 335i, and powered by a saz 3500. I've got some issues though. These vehicles have a firewall between the rear seats/trunk. To combat this, we are cutting a large portion of his rear deck out to allow for more bass to reach the cabin. originally, we planned on a sub up/port up design to aim as much airflow into the cabin as possible. We came up with box dimensions as follows: 28x36.5x15 To give us a gross internal volume of 6.25 cubes. Because of the design and look we want to achieve, aeros are our only option at this point. 2x6" aeros are what we want to use, but to achieve a tuning frequency of 30hz as we would like, each port need to be 23" long, which won't work with our design. my question is would moving the ports to a sub up/port back configuration be ok to do? Or would we just create more rattles and less cabin bass?? Vehicle: 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD WT Head Unit: Pioneer DEH- Mids/Highs: Focal Integration ISC 165’s (front) Subs/Amps: TBD
Aj11 Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 you can have the aero port sticking part way out of the box, or you can bend the port into a L either way should work fine for you. jvc deck stinger 1800 front hc 2000 kinetic rear 2 runs of 1/0g big 3/4 ct 60.4 2 ct 1400.1 ct EXO 15 d1 lots of deadner type r comps front stage 6 kicker tweets rear stage lots of great stuff coming soon ho alt more bats ct comps for front stage more deadner sweet amp rack lots of L.E.D lights new deck (thinking 80 prs, or flip out)

Box is already maxed out, and I need total length of port to be taller than the trunk. Aj11 Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 if your depth is 36.5 and you need a port length of 23 i don't see the issue.. can you opost some Pics so we can get a better idea jvc deck stinger 1800 front hc 2000 kinetic rear 2 runs of 1/0g big 3/4 ct 60.4 2 ct 1400.1 ct EXO 15 d1 lots of deadner type r comps front stage 6 kicker tweets rear stage lots of great stuff coming soon ho alt more bats ct comps for front stage more deadner sweet amp rack lots of L.E.D lights new deck (thinking 80 prs, or flip out)
CleanSierra Posted June 26, 2014 Report Posted June 26, 2014 His width is 36.5" in that trunk. He has 28" of depth. My suggestion, although you're going to hate it: Don't do an 18" sub with those limiting dimensions. I'll guarantee better results with a single 15" Fi SP4 over the 18 same model. You don't have room to do it correctly. You DO have room to make the 15 work well. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

If I do subup port back and switch to a slot port ican make it work, was just hoping we could make the aero ports work.
