afrakes Posted July 2, 2014 Report Posted July 2, 2014 So I went to home depot yesterday to pick up some bondo to fill any/all gaps in my box I'm starting on soon, and also to cover my countersunk screws. All they carried was "automotive bondo" to be used on the body of vehicles. I'm assuming this is not what is used to fill wood, so I didn't buy it. Am I correct or will this work just fine? Either way, what bondo do u guys use? Vehicle: 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD WT Head Unit: Pioneer DEH- Mids/Highs: Focal Integration ISC 165’s (front) Subs/Amps: TBD
redwolf2 Posted July 2, 2014 Report Posted July 2, 2014 Bondo is like Kleenex, or Windex. It became kind of a "standard" go to when referring to a product. Body filler is what you need, and is regarded as an automotive product.
CleanSierra Posted July 2, 2014 Report Posted July 2, 2014 3M makes the product of Bondo. It's the household name for plastic body filler(yes that is what the body filler is made of). If you're only looking to fill screw holes, you could just buy wood filler from Home Depot and fill the holes with that. It sands down just like automotive body filler and won't shrink nearly as badly as auto body filler. As far as brand goes, 3M Bondo is a good product, but a bit hard sanding(i don't use it ever). You're best best is to go by an auto body repair supply store and look for a body filler made by Evercoat. That make an Ultra lite filler that is relatively inexpensive and works VERY well. They are the manufacturer who produces Rage Gold and Rage Xtreme(top tier products). U-Pol makes a good, nice sanding product as well. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
