gordo1408 Posted July 23, 2014 Report Posted July 23, 2014 So, I have recently purchased 2 alpine type r 10" subs, and need to build a box for them. I am fairly new to all this and I want to build a ported box, but am having a hard time figuring out how to calculate the proper volume and tunning for the port. I have the manufacturers specs, but they are only for a single sub. How do i convert the specs to set up for two subs? I will be running the subs parallel, off a mono amp, and want to have them in a single chamber. any advice, comments, tips, tricks, guidance, would be appreciated. thanks
BigManAC Posted July 23, 2014 Report Posted July 23, 2014 The manual shows that the net volume of the box is recommended at .75-1.3ft^3 so all you would have to do is double that. So net your box should be between 1.5 and 2.6 ft^3. The tuning keep the same 35-39 Hz. As far as the port, iirc the general rule is somewhere between 12-16 port area per foot. Also, if you are going to overpower the subs then build a box on the smaller end of the scale and if you're going to under power them then build on the larger end of the scale. hope that helps. 2001 Saturn L200-Sony MEX-BT4100PFRONT STAGE:- (4) Crescendo PWX 6- Cadence XA250.2SUB STAGE:-Fi Audio BL 15 (Sealed Off)-Crescendo BC2kELECTRICAL:- Singer 240A alt - XS Power D3400- SkyHigh OFC power/speaker wire- Big 3 with SkyHigh 0gaugeBuild Log: Click HereScores: 146.5db @ 29hz Outlaw

Yes it does help. Thank you. So i was reading up on the specs more in the manual, and for a single sub ported it recommends a port with an area of 11", for a box that is 20.5" wide. I am looking at making a box that is almost 3', so by what you pointed out above i should be looking at a port area of roughly 33" sq?
