Newer ford PCM controlled charging, what is this part

Recommended Posts

I was having some issues with my voltage being LOWER after I installed a 0awg ground from my batt negative to chassis. I think I figured out why.

I was checking around my engine bay and found this,

I do believe it is a current clamp sensor to send data back to the PCM that tells the computer to slow down the alternator output. So it seems that I bypassed that reading when I hooked my wire up from neg to chassis. What I did to correct this was I took the 0awg off the battery. I grabbed some 4awg and fished it through the clamp and used that instead. It's not 0awg but its better than nothing.

Order restored....

Can anyone confirm this isn't a mistake to run it this way?

Thanks,

-J
