what's the best gauge speaker wire for mids and highs

If you have the 12 gauge, use it. You wouldn't need more than 14-16 gauge and 12 is overkill. They probably told you not to because it was indeed overkill but many here run their mids and highs with 12 gauge. I choose to use 14 gauge personally but 12 is fine for you.

I chose Sky high CCA 12AWG and I ran two sets from front to back to mount x overs in the rear in case i ran active one day. Passenger side had 4 runs.. and it was like running 1/0 wire :lol:
